Davenports, Illusions ITV 1980s?

Postby daleshrimpton » Fri Aug 27, 2010 4:27 pm

In my Youth, there was a lovely television series called Illusions.

It was based around the Davenport collection, and featured grand Ilusions, and smaller magic, often using the aparatus used by the originators, and was hosted by Fergus Roy.

Its something that really should be looked at again.. no exposure, just history and terrific magic.

well, imagine my joy when i found some clips on line... like these...

Dakolta....

Leroy's Asrah

Kalanag's sub trunk with a twist

and Houdinis milk churn escape....

( which was in Davenports window at some point )

My favorite has to be Asrah.. the staging is wonderfull..

And a VERY young Roy Davenport.

I have a copy of the book that accompanied the series - history of magic, photos of the Davenport family and a few simple tricks.

I wonder what day and time that used to be broadcast in the 1980s as I don't remember it at all.

it was shown during kids television, so it would of been between five, and six in the afternoon. And i think it was later in the week.

Oh, that explains it. I was probably watching the cutting edge drugs and violence drama that was Grange Hill.

I remember the series to. For some reason an effect that particularly stuck in my mind was a little box that coins vanished in, and also something like the 'pennytration' effect. Phil
