What a bloody waste of public money.

The BBC should hang their heads in shame over wasting licence fee cash in trying to hide the identity of the Stig...

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-11151777

for goodness sake, all they have to do, is re-cast.

The sooner they scrap the licence fee, the better thats what i say.

Nonsense! The reason why the Stig's identity is such a closely guarded secret is because I'm only licensed to drive automatics!

I was asked. But the tight white leathers made me look like a cross between a sofa, and David copperfield.

They keep on reffering to him as faceless.
Eww.
no wonder he kept the helmet on.

That made me smile.

It reminds me of a story I once read in the paper, evidentally Eric Douglas (Michael's brother and Kirk's son) was at one point a comedian, and by all acounts not a great one. At one point in a show where he was getting heckled a lot, he shouts out, "I am Kirk Douglas's son you know!"

To which the heckler stands and shouts back "No, I am Kirk Douglas's son" - which started a chain reaction all around the audience.

You know, I think it would have been brilliant if Collins had appeared in public yesterday as The Stig, standing implacably with crossed arms until his taxi arrived while the press shouted questions at him.

EDIT: Tee hee! Brilliant! I've just found this: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-11156902

I saw Eric Douglas do stand up. It wasn't pretty.

That story happened in the Comedy Store in London, I think around 94 or 95.

I'm really not sure what the big deal. Sure, if the Stig spent his spare time fighting evil and he has to conceal his identity to protect his loved ones from the violent spiteful revenge from Mr Big who he put away for dealing drugs to children and for trying to destroy the world using a particle accelerator and mutant jelly fish. But no, all he did was drive cars quite fast around race tracks.

It's not even as if there is cctv footage of him dumping a hamster in a wheelie bin.

I once saw a comic called Mik Artistik play to a completely silent room. He was actually depressing, but apparently he's since worked out how to get to the funny.

Eric didn't play to silence - he played to 200 people chanting 'off! off!' at him for fifteen minutes.

He had a show at the Pleasance in 94. A friend of mine went along on a whim and came back with the story. There were seven people in the audience, and five minutes into the set a man in the front row said 'can you say something funny, please'.

Douglas rounded on him, and then spent forty five minutes attacking the bloke. None of it funny. After the show all seven people went to the box office, requested and recieved their money back and Eric was absent from the venue for the rest of the Fringe.
