Indeed. He really hates the media doesn't he? Talk about biting the hand that feeds him...

I doubt he needs publicity these days as he's booked solid for well over 12 months ahead, based on word of mouth and past performance. His dislike of the press in particular stems from a long line of deliberate misinformation and lies published in the past. His 'crime' was to kick back and show how some 'journalists' make stuff up just to sell newspapers. There was one example where the reporter had already written the story, phoned to check a few 'facts' whch Paul pointed out were wrong but the story got published anyway. One of those 'facts' indicated that Debbie broke up his marriage to his first wife. In fact that marriage broke up several years before Paul ever met Debbie. Easy to check but it doesn't sell papers...

Dunno why he does non-magic things though, that show about being on a farm, the Stars in Your Eyes show, the cookery show which featured on the Loius Theroux show etc...

Yeah, that's what gets me. If he dosen't like the media fair enough (understood when it comes to the tabloids) but yet I've seen him on more non magic shows than magic shows lately!

Very true - probably because most of his magic stuff is done live at clubs, theatres and halls around the globe rather than on telly. He had about 18 years of TV supremacy so certainly a good share of that media. Paul's style of magic doesn't fit with TV execs these days, they want edgy and risky stuff I guess.

£s

Daniels is virtually beyond TV career rehabilitation and is a figure of hate. This means he has very little to lose by doing the shows, but they keep him in the public eye enough to sell tickets to his magic shows. I'd say that's the other reason he doesn't seem to pursue magic on TV any more. The only way to see him perform magic is to go to one of his shows.

According to one source at the Beeb a few years back, Paul overstayed his welcome at the BBC by a couple of years and his expectations of things being 'just right' and his blunt comments when they weren't didn't sit well with the newer intake of execs who felt they should dictate how to do things which they knew little about - magic being one of them. Paul's background was harsh, South Bank wasn't quite as bad as Beirut but it comes close enough to breed a very tough exterior and sense of self preservation. He’s blunt, outspoken, and certainly doesn’t mince his words when people have been nasty to him - none of which goes down well with many people! He's certainly the product of times gone by, the club circuits and associated tatty digs etc and it's very unlikely he'll feature in TV magic again. With his regular live shows and the panto commitments I guess he's still making a tidy living!

Oh dear, looks like an early bath for PD.....

MSN News wrote:Paul Daniels is favourite to be the first contestant to be kicked off Strictly Come Dancing.

The new series of Strictly Come Dancing got underway with Paul Daniels installed as the favourite to be booted off first.

Just remember that when it comes to Strictly, the bookies are rarely wrong.

The magician, who alongside partner Ola Jordan danced his waltz to Barry Manilow's Could It Be Magic, was among the seven dancers facing judges Len Goodman, Craig Revel Horwood, Alesha Dixon and Bruno Tonioli for the first time.

Sensing a mauling, the 72-year-old quipped: "Can I say, whatever Craig says, I agree with him!" Bruno Tonioli said: "You got the wrong song - it should be: Could It Be Tragic!"

Paul Daniels ended up bottom of the leader board with a mere 16 points.

I watched out of a kind of morbid curiosity but I found myself too distracted by the sprightly miss Ola Jordan to notice what PD was up to.
I did notice that he is in the papers today for making a remark to one of the homosexual judges about tasting sausages.
I am not sure how they expect a 72 old to compete against 20 something sportsmen and fit young soap stars (especially in a public vote), but there you go.

What they fail to mention is that the guy in question has been hired by the British Sausage Appreciation Society as the celebrity face of British Sausage Week, starting on November 1st. Part of his job is to help find Britain's best sausage. And - if I've got my facts right - one of the previous representitives of British Sausage Week was Paul Daniels.

I don't think I'd have heard of British Sausage Week, if it hadn't been alluded to on Strictly and made a big fuss of by the red tops.

Honestly. Tabloid journalists are just the wurst!
