I'll have to tape it. I'm down at the Frightfest horror movie festival in London all weekend. :)

Just checked the tv guide it says -
Penn & Teller 9pm

A woman whose trick is as amazing as her outfit
A 15yr old trickster
A mentalist with a mind reading stomach
And Paul Daniels son Martin performs.

thoroughly enjoyed tonights show.

Lees gut buster routine, loved it..a round trip to vegas, won on a novelty card reveal.. there's hope for me yet!
Laura London.... a slick, well paced bill in walnut, egg lemon. and a fantastic outfit too
14 year old Jack gave a splendid performance with a ridiculous amount of confidence. But... a 14 year old, shouldn't come across as a man in his 40s. Also, i feel that he may of watched too much Derren.
martin Daniels, well.. what can i say? I've loved the routine from way back, when Paul used to do a similar thing with asrah, and the star wars theme. then a-la beauty & the beast, and as Phantom. he even did it in panto. the lighting, and staging was flawless, and shows just why Paul was top banana for so long on British television.
and finally the water chamber.. thrilling, and one of their best bits.

all in all, a great way to end the series, lets hope it returns. :)

My thoughts exactly, was a lovely performance but my word his demeanor wound me up. I found myself shouting at the TV that he's 14 not 40. Got the derren feel myself too, definitely a big influence on the lad.

Fantastic finale to the series

Have Martin and Paul perform a lovely routine and finishing with one of P & T's most amusing :D

Wossy did say he'd be seeing us later in the year for some more...

Finally, unlurked...

Not only has Jack been watching too much Derren Brown he's also got Derren's DVD 'The Devil's Picturebook' which has that very trick on it and he did the routine pretty much word for word. It's a bit of a weak trick unless you do it in the middle of some other card tricks where it's a superb.

A good show but strange that they had two tricks which were never going to fool Penn & Teller on it. They had to be short tricks due to P&T's final trick needing a quarter of the show to do. Great to see Paul Daniels on TV again.

Dan is currently a very sad magician :(

Even my wife—who has seen the DPB DVD on numerous occasions for the 'love' of Derren—had no problem identifying the effect and the originator. The lad has a huge amount to learn about performance and presentation if all he can do is emulate another. I found it absolutely cringeworthy to watch.

As for the rest of the show, all in all a huge disappointment until the Daniels & Son (or is that the other way round?) performance, which was quite marvellous.

The P&T finale was a little uncomfortable to watch if I'm honest. Not for the fact that I was worried that Teller had drowned, but more for the fact that it was almost alarming at how daft the volunteer was :o)

Not so much a 'great episode' as 'an episode which had a great moment'.

Roll on the Xmas special!

well, perhaps he had been watching too much Derren and perhaps he has got a way to go, but he's got more time that most of us old gits to work on it. I wish I'd been on telly when i was 14

To MagicBill who sent me a PM...to which it seems I can't reply to as being a newbie it seems I can't access it...yes, you are barking up the correct tree. The trick done in isolation doesn;t leave much option even to people who have only seen a few card tricks and the odd methodology.

I can thoroughly recommend Devils Picturebook although just looked at his site and it's been updated and doesn;t include the 'magicians question' password protected area where you could buy the DVD from. It's a wonderful double DVD showing Derren doing some pure card magic tricks and then some card based mentalism magic.

Watching it I do wish he would do some of the old stuff more but as he is now a 'Mentalist' it would confuse the general public as they would say 'But he's not a magician?!?!?!?....when did he start doing card tricks?'

I agree. The comparison I make is that in the same way that you can look at the early, more mundane works of great abstract painters and think "Well for all the ground-breaking crazy stuff, it's kind of reassuring that they can prove they can just draw too!" it's good to know that for all that Blaine and Brown moved onto, they still know their sh*t where plain old card magic is concerned. Does that make sense? I was so pleasantly surprised watching Derren perform on The Devil's Picturebook.

I also agree with the comments about the effect in question. One of my fairly regular spectators (admittedly in my early days) said it was the best thing he'd seen me do! Faint praise when you know the methodology but then you've earned that place by (a) developing the presentational skills and (b) having wowed them with enough of the tricky stuff that they can accept you pulling it off without considering a disappointingly simple explanation.

And, yes, Jack had an unnaturally deep voice for his looks and his verbatim reproduction of Derren's effect was a tad excruciating. Good luck to the lad though - an encouraging start for anyone.

Excellent final episode. Great to see the Daniels perform and then P&T doing the John Cleese routine (as I named it) to great effect.

Hopefully the nation is now looking for magic everywhere and us magicians can satisfy their needs.

Think people here are being slightly harsh on a 14-year-old, it still takes balls to not only appear on national TV but also perform in front of P & T
