Oh yes, indeed!!

There's another thread on the site about the BBC show which will hopefully find its feet in the next couple of weeks, so a separate one for the P&T special is perfect!!

I hope P&T pull the stops out on this one - my understanding is it's a one-off special, so they won't have further shows to fix any problems. Looking forward to seeing Archini too!!

John Archer and Michael Vincent are on it, I'm led to believe. I reckon if anyone fools them though, it'll be somebody relatively unheard of with some mad ideas.

So it's just one show on Friday? I was hoping there would at least be a few, was looking forward to seeing some good magic on tv.

Wasn't there a member of TM that is going to be on there? Or was it just Britains got Talent?

If the ratings are good enough then in theory they're going to make others.

Rob and I (Morgan & West) were part of the 9 magicians that they filmed in the studio but they're only using 6 in the final show for timing reasons and sadly we're one of the ones that hit the editing room floor. Hopefully we'll be able to put the footage on youtube in the near future though!

Richard Bellars (good work on starting this thread my friend) is on and will be a joy to watch. As will John Archer and all the other performers. It was really good fun to film and everyone involved was really positive about the whole thing, I'm hoping that it's going to be a cracking show.

Will P&T be exposing again? I read somewhere that they are going to explain how the tricks are done: if they are correct someone loses?

Well the concept of the show is to try and Fool Penn and Teller. Forget Penn for a second, trying to fool Teller. That is no small feat. I don't know how the show will pan out, but I assume Teller will have to say..."I wasn't fooled." at some point or another. Whether or not Teller is obliged to explain the method (I doubt it) is to be discovered.

Either way, from an ethical stand point, I should hope that everything performed is of the 6/9 different acts own creation. Performing something standard or off the shelf to Teller would be very silly so they'd have to aware that they'd be exposed, or at least told it wasn't enough to fool them.

Well, the concept of the show is an interesting one, seeing as magic begins with fooling someone but goes much further than that. Add to that the fact that ideally our aim is to fool / entertain the general public, not well versed magicians, such as Teller. I presume that's why it's interesting though, to try and find something they don't know about. The thing is you could quite easily fool them, in the moment, so that they experience the effect, more difficult is to fool them so they can't backtrack and figure it out later, which is the point in this show, right?

Saying that though, I've seen the advert and the show does look good, so I'm looking forward to it.

I would think that Teller would keep his mouth shut.

As much as they like to make you think so, P&T don't go around exposing stuff willy nilly. I recall an interview they did over the summer when they visited London when they said they make beautiful methods to expose. Because let's face it, who really wants to hear "In actual fact I turned over two cards. Aren't I sneaky?"

And again, "I know how you did it, you turned over two cards" doesn't make good TV

I'm looking forward to it. But I'd watch anything that Teller does, even miming the phone book

Neil Gaiman has pointed out "Lift Off of Love" as a prime example, the illusion presented normally is quite mundane and the sort of thing we might have seen on kids telly in the 1970s; switch to the transparent and suddenly it becomes a thing of beauty watching the crazy amount of ingenuity and work that goes into creating such a pedestrian effect as Teller spins and slides around in the plexiglass like an insane hamster.

I'm looking forward to it. But I'd watch anything that Teller does, even miming the phone book

The "Silverfish" miser's dream I see on youtube bears little resemblance to what I remember seeing live; from halfway back in the theatre I saw those coins transform into goldfish... Teller IS magic

maybe not, but that's what they'll look for the next time they see someone performing.

I really enjoyed it, even with Jonathan Ross. Kicks the BBC's effort all to hell and back.

Really pleased to see Ben Earl get through too.

Just watched it & WELL DONE John Archer :D

I'm quite surprised they managed to get magic on a mainstream channel for an hour & a half on prime time TV. Not convinced it will get the viewing figures to go to another series but would like to be proved wrong

There was no need for exposure. The feedback was coded for the most part but some of it was gratuitous chest thumping...

John and Michael did us proud...and Mr Earl...totally cool!
