Although I am enjoying the new series of 'Monkey Magic' I would dearly love a new magic/variety series back on our screens that you can sit down and watch with all the family, on the lines of David Nixon's, Paul Daniels' and Wayne Dobson shows. For me Stephen Mulhern is the man who could pull it off. I think he is wated on that 'Ministry of Mayhem'. I don't know what your thoughts of him as a magician are but he has certainly got the personality to pull a show like that off. Add a celeb assistant, (Claire Sweeney would be my choice), some top magicians from around the world, a popular band/singer and for me the most important a new young up and coming magician and I think you be on a winner with a show like that, but you know something, I do not think it will ever happen. I would be interested in your views, do you think it would be a good idea?

Yea I agree another Paul Daniels type show would be great, Maybe all it would take is a couple of the top UK magi's getting off their arses, coming up with some ideas( when down at the Magic Circle) and an outlay for a programme as I am sure they would have no trouble finding guests with all their contacts in the Magic world and approcing someone in the TV industry, maybe channel 4 or 5, anything would be better than that Monkey Rubbish

I really like Stephen Mulhern as a magician, some of his tricks are obviously targeted towards children but he's got a great personality and i think it might just work...
Sad as it is, i still manage to watch kids t.v on the saturdays, I'm not at work, but it'd be great too see him move up to a more adult audience to liven up maybe a saturday afternoon??

:D i think stephen mulhern is a fabulous magician even if his tricks are aimed at us kids, but i agree i would like to see him older television in the afternoons, but saturday morning tv is great , ministry of mayhem is well funny, some people are complaining stephen is on tv too much but i dont think so, he is only on two shows (that im aware of) all his other shows have finished.
unfortunatley stephen hasnt got many websites dedicated to him so how are fans supposed build knowledge about him?

Why not ressurrect Paul Daniels back into prime time TV with his own show?

I agree that Steven Mulhern is a very good presenter for his age and will no doubt go from strength to strength but what the TV company appears to be doing is to get him more and more exposure through general television presenting instead of magic. I think that this may be difficult for Stepehen to move away from in the future. I've no doubt that he will still be into his magic but at times it's what the programme makers want.

Paul, on the other hand is a master magician with a fan base that would love to see him return to mainstream TV.

That's a point to make - There's a younger generation that I'm sure would be amazed at being able to watch Paul Daniels

Not sure if I should say this but earlier this year I was told that Paul had outstayed his welcome at the BBC and became rather unpopular, his 'crime' was wanting things done properly and professionally but the newer 'powers that be' had no respect for Magic or other traditional live entertainment shows. Paul doesn't suffer fools (or the press!) gladly so I'm not surprised the Mandarins at the beeb got their feathers justifiably ruffled. He occasionally appears on History of Magic type shows on the beeb but only because they're made by independent production companies and it's very unlikely that the BBC will ever screen his old shows as the current thinking is still very much the same. During the Summer of 2004, I and one or two others asked the BBC nicely if they had any plans for programmes to commemorate or tie in with the Magic Circle Centenary this year and suggested that reshowing some of Paul's shows might be one way of doing it. We're still waiting for a reply!

The two 'Secrets Revealed' shows with John Lennahan, Etienne Pradier etc on BBC last year and the year before were the only way that large scale magic could be craftily got past the restrictive mindset and I believe the third programme, if still on schedule, will be even closer to traditional Magic that the other two. Bottom line - if you want to see Paul perform you'll need to go to one of his stage shows, it's well worth it as he's even better live than on TV.

He seems to be stuck as the second string presenter on mainstream TV or main presenter on second string TV channels. His previous co-presenter Holly Willoughby is probably faring much better :D !

I caught a very brief moment of his Saturday teatime show this past weekend - can't remember the name but he was in Teneriffe/Majorca (that sort of area) and he just so happened to do a card trick at the time I tuned in.

I have to say that I was surprised that his DL was pretty poorly executed and despite it being a very basic trick the standard was no better than an intermediate level magician.

I wonder if he's now passed the point where he doesn't care about magic due to his success in presenting. He's certainly in demand these days when it comes to presenting.

Stephen is/was a member of TM - way back in 2005. He set aside his own rules about not replying to Forum discussions to register here and thank everyone for their kind comments. Also there were a couple of teenybopper 'cyber groupies' who kept posting messages of their undying love for him and we had to deal with them as gently as possible!

He's A bit like Dom wood in that respect.

But, in answer to your comment about the d/l. Its worth remebering that he has always been a stage magician, where such things are not important.
So I think we can excuse a dodgy lift now and again.

I'm a big Stephen Mulhern fan, he's probably my most favourite magician.

I watched CITV everyday back in the late 90's so saw him on my TV literally every afternoon, in 1999 he had his own magic TV show called 'The Quick Trick Show' which I loved and my love for magic grew from there, if you've not seen it, there's an episode here...

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KPLlxpl796s

That ended around 2002, and then he did 'Tricky TV' which wasn't as good, But I have TQTS video they released and some episodes which were sent to me by a kind friend.

In 2000, I actually met Stephen, where CITV was filmed wasn't far away from where I lived. It was at a party in a pub, and he was with someone else who presented CITV called Tom Darville, allthough now his name is Arthur Darville and you might know him better as Rory in Dr.Who! :D well I spoke to him and asked him to do a trick, so he got a £2 and made it disappear and pulled it out my ear  he then gave me the £2 and I got his autograph which is on the back of a beermat, the autograph says "To my mate Jack, magic wishes, Stephen Mulhern, CITV!" greatest kids tv personality i've seen/met, and I've met a few!

Anyway, back to the magic side of things, he has done some pretty awesome magic tricks, one of my favourites is at 12:55 in this video, at first he produces goldfish by rolling up a map and pouring them out, but the best trick is after that. Upon borrowing a spectators coat, he makes a pile of fishbowls (complete with water and fishes!) appear from no where :)

His magic has mainly been for children but he recently did a gameshow called 'Magic Numbers' where he performed one trick each show, it was good to see him performing magic again, but sadly the show was a ratings flop, but I did read somewhere they're thinking about giving him a prime time magic show, which sounds interesting :D
