okey dokey a deck of cards is shuffled and cut several times, on the final cut a card is looked at and replaced.
the spec keeps hold of the deck as a magician selects a baloon from the display, the balloon is poped and out falls a copy of the spectaters card.

cards used stripper deck and dupe card.

a deck of cards is shuffled and cut several times, on the final cut a card is looked at and replaced.
magician attempts to find the card without success, card is found to have vanished from deck and apeares in bread roll, ice block, previusely shown empty box, bag, umbrella etc.

cards used stripper deck.

I am in the process of learning some card tricks with non gaffed decks, cant see the point in a gaffed deck, imagine this sinaro you are around some one elses house and someone hands you a deck of cards and asks you do those tricks you showed them a while back using a stripper deck, you would like a real fool "urh I cant do that with those cards". You get stripper decks with Marvins magic kits and they are sold in Toys r us, much better to learn non gaffed card tricks.

fair point but when your a working pro like me you use any advantage you can get to make your life easier.
the above tricks can all be set up with an ordinary deck useing tried and tested slieghts, which I can also do, but its a lot easier and quicker with a stripper deck and the post specificly asked for gaffed deck routines so why not post a routine yourself.

wo wo wo Magicdiscoman I was in no way saying your routine was naff or anything like that, just stating that I think gaff decks are naff, I have used a striper deck to do a few little effects but would not invest my time and effort in learning many more incase I got busted, all I am saying if you are thinking of getting into card magic it is better to learn some good non gaffed tricks as they are far more versetile and nowa days you dont even have to look at boring books as there are loads of awesome DVD's out there.( before any oldies get on my back for saying that I dont care as I am from the playstaion generation and will take full advantage of whats on offer!)
As for sugesting a good routine to learn well what about Daryl's Ambitious card routine( ok before you say it apart from the end as it uses a gaff) or just a plain old ambitious routine, it looks awesome when done right and the sleight used is not that hard to get quite reasonable( for the basic routine that is)

Sorry an add to the above, I appreciate what you are saying Mdiscoman, but doing tricks for a show as opposed to doing stuff for friends and family and maybe the odd stranger is totally different more likely for me to get busted than you if you know what I mean, as people would be familiar with my tricks, where as you may keep those gaff tricks for performances only, Hope you understand what I am saying :)

Most professional magicians use gaffed decks within their repertoire, so although it is true you need to pick your moments for using a gaffed deck and you need to be able to do something impromtu with a regular deck, it's an error to write of gaffed decks in the same way as dismissing gimmicks in general.

I occasionally use a Svengali deck which I think is an often overlooked gaffed deck but once mastered can still be a powerful deck. My routine with a Svengali requires some prep in advance but is:

PREPERATION:

burn a hole in one of the force cards and leave singed (burnt) around the edge of the hole, like a bullet hole. Make sure the hole, and the top face card of the deck (random card) shows only the white part of the face through the hole. Then, using magicians wax stick the holed card under a chair or something else that is opposite from where you will stand, but close to where the spectors will be (sit or stand).

ROUTINE:

A spectator selectes one of the force cards by cutting the deck. Close the deck leaving the forced card out jogged so everyone can see. Then push back into the deck.

Hold the deck above your head and ask the spectator to point two fingers like a pistol and aim at the centre of the deck. You can add some humour about how good a shot the spectator is and then ask them to shout 'bang'. Pretend to catch the invisible bullet in the deck.

Then, riffle the deck showing all the cards as different and say that the force card is now missing from the deck. Reveal the pre-positionned force card with the hole by directing the spectator to it (under chair that they're sitting on as an example).

Return the holed card to the top of the deck, face up and after a few chosen words, place the deck face down and cut off five or six small packets (or ask the spectator to do this). Reveal all the top cards to be the same as the holed card. Re-assemble the deck, riffle to show the whole deck is the same as the holed card.

Turn the deck face down, take away the bottom holed card from underneath and then show the deck, riffle to show that all of the cards are now different again.

I can't claim the routine as my idea as I originally saw a variation of this on TV a couple of years ago and tried it out myself. I've always found the reactions make it very worthwhile.
