Just an idea

As we now life in a time where we cant trust everyone as much as we would like, what about doing a list of names of people who we know we can trust to do sales with, as i have had both good and bad experience

What dya think?

Tricky area that. I have seen on this and other forums, posts that tell tales of woe regarding one dealer or another.
You will also see on the posts, the same dealers being praised to the hilt.
The same applies to products.
Granted, if there was someone that gave universally bad service, it would be a good idea to mention this . However consistently bad business will probably make the rogue traders life financially, a reasonably short one.

I suspect the idea was more aimed at individual sellers on the trading rooms rather than online shops. In which case the idea has potential. It would I guess be similar to the scheme that e-bay adopt wheer every one that buys or sells gets rated.

I would be against the idea of rating shops in such a manner, as those threads get very ugly very quickly.

What is everyone elses thoughts?

Personally I won't send a cheque/product to someone that as far as I know hasn't successfully traded on the board until I recieve their cheque/product.
A list like this would only help, esp if it stated that if your name did not appear on the successfully traded bit, then it was likely that you would be expected to send your product before your cheque was sent.

So I say go for it. :)

These days the first reaction to negative comments is litigation so it would be risky indeed to publicly post adverse comments no matter how true they may be. There's no reason why an individual couldn't pass such comments on a Forum but they would have to bear in mind the possible consequences.

Mandrake, there is no need for negative comments about people.

It would be a trusted list, ie a list of people that had successfully traded with a number of people. Can't see how that could cause anyone any problems?

Oh how I agree with you on that score! Sadly we seem to be in the minority because there are still some folks who feel they have the right to make negative comments/slag folks off because they are somewhat remote from the person being criticised.

How would you envisage dealing with the situation where 3 postings said that ABC Magic Ltd were an excellent source yet a fourth posting told a different story whereby ABC let them down badly? All four may be factual and truthful depending on the circumstances but that fourth one would have to be carefully worded/moderated in case it went OTT.

Of course, even if there isn't a dedicated 'Trusted List' section, there's no reason why individuals can't tell everyone about good service from a particular supplier or suppliers as we do at the momnent. This topic is well worth further consideration as it's valuable to get other opnions on sources as well as tricks.

My understanding was that the original idea was about doing trades with individuals on the forum, not dealers.

I took it as an idea to reduce risk of sending a cheque and never recieving the product or perhaps a very poor condition product. The idea would then be a list of people that you had successfully traded with.

So I could for example say that if anyone was interested in buying/swapping with say Tom Lauten or Magic DiscoMan I could tell them that I had traded with these people with no problems. Now if a number of other people had also had good experiences then they could both go on a trusted list.

That at least is my understanding of it.

Ok. How about we have a sticky in the Magic Sale forum called "Trusted List". Anyone buying and selling on the forum will be invited to updte it.

It will be locked and only updated by mods, so you would have to PM a mod if you wish to update the list. That way there can be no chance of it getting out of hand.

It will consist of a list of the people who have had comments made about them, and the comments that have been made (and who made them?)

For example

Bananafish

5th Oct 2004: Happy Toad: Items sent promptly
2nd Sep 2004: Mandrake: Cheque bounced. Eventually he sent another.
23rd Aug 2004: Mandrake: Items sent promptly, but the book was in very poor condition

Happy Toad

Mandrake

23rd Aug 2004: Bananafish: Cheque sent promptly.

Yup that is exactly the kind of thing I had thought was being requested and which I do think would be of use esp to those that are newer to the board. I see already Mandrake is getting a bad rap

Ah, right! I reckon that would work OK and would be worth trying. If there are problems later on we can always do something about them at that time. (Must have a word with NatWest about getting more of those nice rubber cheques soon - very handy for doing 'Penacoin'!).

lol. well immediately there is a problem, as it wasn't mandrakes cheque that bounced it was mine.

The way I wrote it to be read was that under the name in bold where all the comments and the people that made the comments. ie, Mandrake said that my cheque bounced.

I see it was ambiguous as it was being read as all the comment that I had made about whom...

does this clarify
