To answer my own question, I would say Die Cipher2 is my favourite, it's just unfortunate that it doesn't play particularly well in a close-up/table/parlour/stage situation.

For close up I have always enjoyed doing ESPerfect

Hmm why doesn't it play well in a close up situation? Personally I find it does. I use mine to start a mentalism routine as a kinda tuning in device and my presentation is built around them being allowed to lie or tell the truth and it's my job to ascertain which. ( this also allows for some nice patter about lying in general and being able to spot when someone is lying and whether this is something they would like to be able to do or indeed ther partner to be able to do. )

Hmm just re read your post and realised you seem to suggest it doesn't play well in practically any situation lol

My favourite mentalism effect is one I don't know the name of but it involves givng the spec a choice of 3 different coloured ropes, 2 ropes are taken from your hand the one not taken is the only one with a £20 tied in the middle. Obviously the specs would have wonthe £20 if only they had chosen the correct rope. There are many versions of this trick, usually done with envelopes although I've seen socks and evenwellies used. What I like is that it is very visual for a mentalism trick, it is quick and therefore suited as an opener and the chance to win money tends to grab attention.

I also like ID used with Thought Transmitter. On it's own ID is very powerful but with Thought transmitter it's even more impossible. Specs can't even begin to imagine how it's done other than by you somehow really knowing in advance which card they would choose :)

This is one of Ali Bongo's little treasures.

Yes it did come across like that didn't it. Actually I love the little bu**er, but have found it plays best in more intimate situations. With closeup/table there is never enough time to do it real justice as I like to think of it as the start of a mentalism routine.

In saying that, I have done it at tables, and I do truley love it.

'Card Calling' using Osterlind's BCS and probably 'Mind Control' by Peter Nardi and Marc Spelmann.

It used to be Max Maven's Autome but currently working on a new book test so this one has been put on the back burner for a while!!
