I had to think about that. But I would have to say my favourite book is 'Theory of Magic' by Al Schneider - available for free as an ebook at http://www.worldmagiccenter.com/Theory/TheoryOfMagic.html

It's the book that took me from just doing a couple of tricks, to really thinking seriously about what i was doing.
It's an excellent read. Al writes really well - and he's kind enough to make it available for free.
There are no actual secrets revealed. Well actually - the secrets behind the secrets are explained, so you won't learn any new effects - just how to do them..

An unanswerable question, but the best beginner's book is The Magic Book by Harry Lorayne.

The one i am reading at the moment is rather Captivating. Its a book on the 3 shell game written in the 40's or 50's By Jack Channin.
there is a move so off handed, and so casual, that i get up early to practice it every morning.
but generaly i dont have any particular favorites, as i have a library of several hundred books .
If i singled out one, the others would get upset :D

( anneman life and times is probably my grab in case of a fire)

Half cheating techniques, half magic... The Expert at the Card Table. My favorite.

I agree with James, Expert at the Card Table also gets my vote. It's going to take me forever to master all of the sleights in there. However, can we really ingore Royal Road to Card Magic?

yes we can... the question is "what is your favourite book?"... not "whats your favourite book that you think you must have in your list or noone will EVER take me seriously as a magician?"

to be honest i dont even have a copy of Royal road.. so i couldnt claim it as my favourite book... dunno what my fave book is though....maybe one of the Ortiz books or "50 close up problems" by Dr Norman Nutjob
