Not sure what the etiquette is regarding posting up reviews of one's own work!? But I'm so excited by this that I can't help it! Luke Jermay has reviewed my latest offering "Pure Q&A". It's made my day! :D

BTW - those of you who were kind enough to pre-order should receive their copy today (Tuesday) or Wednesday.

Luke Jermay's review:

Paul Voodini is my kind of mind reader and his books are the kind of books I love to read. What you hold in your hands at present is no exception. I love this book, I love the material in this book, and I love what I know this book will do for you. In the past I have stressed the importance of a ‘toolbox’ of method and approach. It is my feeling that the
best thing we can all do is expand our available method and intellectual understanding of varying approaches to allow us to perform our unique vision of mentalism in varying situations, settings, and venues. With this in mind, Paul Voodini and his published work are of significant value in the landscape of literature available to the mentalist. Every time I read Paul’s work I get to add something new into my own toolbox of method and
approach. This makes his books inspiring, interesting, but most importantly valuable to a commercial performer. The mark of a truly great thinker is that of his concepts being adopted into others work and with that and my personal experience with Paul and his concepts becoming a part of my own performances I feel Paul’s thinking launches him up into the ‘greats’ instantly.

If you are anything like me, as you read this book you will begin an imaginary, mental journey with Paul’s words being brought to life inside of your own imagination. You will find yourself imagining either Paul or yourself performing the material as it is written. This is often the moment I know whether a book is ‘my kind’ of book or not. If the book sends my mind off on the imaginary journey and I am excited by the visions it inspires in my imagination, and more importantly if the book contains the real world experience of someone who has clearly worked the material, that imaginary journey will be rich, full and easily created within my mind. With those books that I love I almost instantly see myself applying the methods, concepts and approaches in my imagination. With Paul and
his work this process is instant and easy. The concepts, his scripts, and his approach bring themselves to life in my own imagination with almost no effort on my part. So good is his thinking that it almost takes on a life of its own inside of my mind. This is clearly material that has captured my attention and imagination and I know it will do the same for you.

What else will this book do for you? How about being able, in any setting, to present a Q and A show with next to no props, no gimmicks, and no tricks. A Q and A act that your audience will know in their heart is not a ‘magic trick’ but is the ‘real thing.’ How about being handed a full show that has been tried and tested in front of paying audiences? How
about all of this with nothing more than your mind and the minds of your audience? For those of you who are looking to add material to offer within your professional services, Paul has literally handed you a new income in the form of a new show that will book itself with the word of mouth reaction it will create. Sound good? Well that’s just the start of what this simple, unassuming and honest book will do for you. I am excited for what
your about to read and what I know it will give you and I hope you are too.

Enjoy it.

Because of my foreword? Bless ;)

On a serious note though, I really like this manuscript. It really falls with Paul's style and other releases - impromptu, no gimmicks, no gaffs, completely clean and shut eye.

'mazing stuff!

Genius. There, I said it.
Seriously folks, this manuscript gives you an approach, while seemingly obvious, defies everything we've learnt to beleive as mentalists.

And I bloody love it!

To be fair, at the time of writing I've only managed a skim through the 44 pages but I'm loving every bit of it.

You'll need balls of steel to perform this but it doesn't surprise me one bit that Paul is doing this day in and day out, I've seen him work and his balls are definitely of the metallic variety. Don't let that put you off though, even if you want to do Q&A 'your way' - this manuscript gives you countless other options to mix things up, and this is really the holy grail of mentalism not just Q&A: making it more meaningful for you audience.

A final point before I return to this manuscript is something I know a lot of mentalists might balk at: an ungimmicked drawing dup..... I rememeber when I first saw Paul do this I joked with him "What, no imp pad? Where's the clipboard?" I couldn't beleive he was about to do what he did. Boy oh boy did it hit with the audience. Pre-Show? That's for amatuers, this stuff hits your audience and it not only hits hard but it hits in that special warm squidgy place they have.

Genius. There, I said it again.

Finished. Loved it.

I love the ungimmicked duplication. Love that it can be done impromptu if needed. Love it so much I now have an alternative opener I have been searching for!

The contents of this manuscript is one of those things which some people will hate and never attempt. They are wrong to hate and it and even more wrong to not attempt it

People have said Paul has balls of prototype metallic alloy however I disagree. Paul has a convinction and love of performance that gives him the ability to not worry and just do what he finds works. People only feel that way because of their own personal fears of attempting what is essentially for Paul - common sense.

I genuinely cannot wait to give the stuff in Pure Q&A a try!

It is bold (the drawing and the Q & A). I agree that not everyone will like the methods but this has a lot of potential. I think that even if you continue to use another method you will still pick up some great tips and ideas from this book. The scripting and layout for the show is excellent and you can clearly see that this has been performed many times.

When you read through the book you will find a complete act that you can perform without any gimmicks. All you really need to do is think about how you would present the act. Paul even supplies a copy of his old poster so you can see how he promotes the act (he appears to be a member of the housemartins! ). I am seriously considering trying this out as a complete act, maybe starting with a local show to test it. It would make a great change from my regular mind reading show.

The drawing duplication really made me smile and is bold and clever. Another good work from Paul. Read through it a few times before making your mind up as some may dismiss the work but this has lots of potential. Good value for money, yes i paid for the book and yes i would say if i did not like it (and Paul knows i would!).

If you love your gimmicked methods then this may not be for you, but if you want a solid real World act that you can perform then get this book.

Just like to echo the above and add that as magicians we tend to get wrapped up in an internal argument of 'Where's the magic?' whenever an ungimmicked method is suggested, but in this case as Paul himself says, this is how 'real' psychics operate.

Brilliant stuff.

Another brilliant and inspirational work from Paul, solid stuff that actually works well. When performing for an audience, this kind of show is far more powerful and impressive than someone with 20 envelopes and a calculator. Anyone interested in this area should get this book, as you are also buying a bit of Paul's experience with tried and tested (and successful) material.

10/10 from me.

Superb thinking has gone into this. The document covers an act of two halves. The first half covering a introduction and the answering of questions and ending in a blessing. The second half covering tarot readings and an ungaffed drawing replication.

The first half covers potential questions and answers you may receive. The questions have all come from Paul's experience and the answers are all well thought out. The blessing "routine" for want of a better word is lovely and I'm sure will help create a good atmosphere to round off the first half of the act.

The second half covers tarot readings. The snippets of advice on readings were great to read. It does require a knowledge of how to do readings, but I imagine most people interested in this will be capable readers. The act is finished with an ungaffed drawing replication, which is wonderful in it's simplicity. After one read I'm already considering ways of using this outside of Q&A. It's that nice an idea I want to adapt it for further use.

In conclusion another great bargain release from Paul. £18 for a 40 minute act, which will earn that amount back many times over in one show. Then as a bonus the fact that you haven't had to buy any gimmicks has saved money.
