The Effect
To clarify what Paula has already said, the effect is as follows.
A deck of cards is removed from the box and given a fair rifle style shuffle. The cards are spread face up to show that they are indeed all mixed. You claim that you need to extract the four aces so that you can show another effect (for example twisting the aces, Dr. Daleys last trick etc.)
After performing the intermediate trick you then claim that by re-inserting the aces into the deck something strange and spectacular happens. At this point the cards are reinserted, the deck is spread, and the deck is miraculously in new deck sequence.
The Review
I have to say that I like this effect. I like it a lot. It plays pretty much as the effect describes. It is ‘relatively’ easy to perform, certainly not the easiest, but then nor is it the most difficult. Personally I will say that I do not think the Faro shuffle is all that necessary, as IMO a GOOD riffle would do equally well, or the cards could be pre-shuffled and then false shuffled/cut once out of the box.
The few times I have performed this I have to say that it has gone down extremely well indeed, although I have to say that for me, the price of this is a little steep. It is after all just one card effect, however...
Having said that it is a VERY strong card effect that gets good reactions, so for the professional Table Hopper/Close up magician I would say that it would certainly earn it’s keep in a very short time.
I am not sure about setting it up from a borrowed deck in 60 seconds. I will have to time myself with that, but then again, how often would you need to do that.
It is certainly true that it is self resetting, but then again, it is a deck that requires to be kept in a stack, so if you are a magician that likes to do all your effects with a single deck of cards, then this would only really work as a starter effect, and then the fact that it was reset wouldn’t help you much.
Bottom Line
There is no doubt that it IS a very powerful trick, that uses a combinations of widely known techniques to perform. I think Paula is on to a winner with this one, and if the comments/variations from the likes of Dan Harlan are to be believed then it is not just me that thinks so.
Well done Paula…
