Dark Card

Postby Johnny Bravo » Oct 22nd, '04, 05:51

The Effect
From a red backed deck of cards, a spectator selects and removes a card, signs the face, and returns it to the deck. The deck is then spread and a blue backed card is seen in the middle of the spread. When turned over, it is the card the spectator signed!

Cost
£7.50 - http://www.magictricks.co.uk/prodshow.asp?code=181

Difficulty
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)
3. Sleights Required. A Force. A Faro Move

Review
I like this trick & I like the effect it produces.
Deck can be fully spread & controlled shuffled at start & finish & the spectator can keep there signed card at the end.

Few niggles.
Eagle eyed spec may suss the gimmick at the start.

I've never heard of the Farro move until now & the instructions for this aren't very clear, so I'll need to go traipsing off around the net to find out how to do this.
After 30 minutes I couldn't do this move. Fortunatly there is another way to activate the gimmick but the Faro is best as you don't have to touch the card but you can do the move by placing the card into the rear of the deck yourself. It has to be the rear which is not a natural placement area.

As the gimmick is inserted into the cards it makes a slight sound & like most card tricks you have punters nearby. Thus needs to be covered with plenty of speech at this point.

The other part of the gimmick doesn't quite square 100%, acceptable with a quick moving deck but a noticible divide can be seen if not careful

Positive.
The manual states you'll get around 100 performances from each card (so scrap one card for practising). However it would be easy to do it yourself & you can do it on any cards.

Overall
Great effect, great trick & if you wanna do something like this you've got to expect to be able to do the sleights required.
This review was written from a nervous newbies point of view. If your fine with the sleights required or prepared to practise, then this trick is a great addition.

8/10
