Zee & Co.

Postby Andi Brooks » Sep 21st, '11, 01:20

I've just interviewed Eric Lindsay of Zee & Co. I believe it is the first interview with Eric to cover his whole career as both an actor (he toured Britain with Bela Lugosi in the 1951 production of Dracula) and illusionist. During the late 70s and 80s he was hailed as one of the world's greatest illusionists. The interview conains many great photos of Zee & Co in action. You can read it at:

Our costume designer at the Arts Theatre Nottingham, toured with Zee for a while and praised him highly.

Alas I never saw him--at least not performing Magic. Although I have a video from TV of The Magic Castle, London,( I think it was the Piccadily Theatre converted into a magic venue) in which Zee co starred with Johnny Hart.

I never forgot his brilliant 'Renfield' in the Lugosi Dracula, which I saw at Dudley Hippodrome, Worcs. in the early 50's.

The sight of the handsome, auburn haired young man with so little mind, really touched the audience and myself--far different to several other Renfields I saw who were just OTT.

Years later when I wrote my own version I directed a blonde haired young man who was made to play it in a similar way.

I saw Eric in the 7 dials show. such a commanding personality. I recall him doing a variation on the Kalanag multi method Levitation, set in an Egyptian tomb. The girl floating out from a golden sarcophagus.
Stunning!

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....

I'm sure Eric will be delighted that his performances as Renfield and Zee are so fondly remembered. I'll let him know.
