Toothache

Postby Ste Porterfield » Oct 4th, '11, 03:38

My word, is there any pain quite like it?!

I started with the problem last week (apologies to Lenoir and the Devil's Tailor for sitting moaning most of our meet) but today it's unbearable.

I'm booked in for surgery next Monday but now I'm not sure I can wait that long.

It's worse after I brush my teeth so I'm tempted to eat loads of doughy stuff to try and plugs the holes. I'm feeling slightly better with some stella and codeine but I've got a horrendous day lined up at work in the morning and I suspect I'm really going to struggle.

Plus, I bloody hate the dentist too!

Sympathy appreciated!

I had an abscess last year and it got very painful. One night I thought I would numb the pain with whiskey. I drank a third of a bottle of good stuff (single malt) and the pain got worse and worse. I showed up at the dental hospital the following morning in agony, and hung over after a night sitting up (no sleep) with the bottle.
The dentist told me that the whiskey was the worst thing I could have taken, as it increased blood flow and prevented the pain killers working.
He said the best option was to alternate nurofen and codeine, taking one every two hours.

Cheers, Tony.

The alcohol seemed like the quickest way. Codeine is a magnificent drug though!

I find the worst thing is the phantom pains right around the mouth/jaw.

I too had an abcess a few years ago and it's the first time I have ever actually felt pain killers start to work and boy was it a good feeling. Sitting in a dark lounge at four in the morning waiting for the pain killers to kick in, applying pressure to cut off blood flow to my jaw for a momentary relief, knowing as soon as I release the pressure the pain will be even worse....

You beat me to it. I've never had toothache, but everyone I know recommends oil of cloves.

It certainly does work on cavities, unfortunately it tastes like the sweat from Satan's scrotum.

OMFG...no pain like it

Had an abcess about 15 years ago now, it was at Xmas...remember crawling around the floor of my parents living room, never felt anything like it. Made a kick in the balls seem like heaven

Luckily my Dad had some strong painkillers from an Op he had at the time, not sure what I would have done otherwise

Hope you get it sorted mate

This is very true (though I strongly suspect that Satan's Scrotal Secretions would actually taste like nectar from the gods, in comparison to the evil that is clove oil!).

I would also strongly recommend going to your large local Sainsburys, where - in the toothbrush/paste aisle - you can find a little plastic box called a Dental First Aid Kit, which contains a supply of temporary filling, and is truly excellent :D

Either way, bud, you have my sympathies - really hope you feel better soon!

..... beat me to it as well - I've never tried it but I keep hear everyone going on about how good it is

QUESTION:
If we can sue McDonalds for making us fat and cigarette companies for giving us cancer; why can't we sue Smirnoff for all the ugly gits we've sh*gged ??

Clove oil is the most horrendous tasting substance I have ever tried.

Had to go for an emergency root canal earlier. I'm back for further treatment next Monday to get temporary fillings replaced.

Looks like my habit of sucking extra strong spearmints is going to have to be knocked on the head.
