The "ILC" Deck and "1CR" by Lawrence Turner

Postby Beardy » Sat Oct 08, 2011 4:50 pm

The Effect

"ILC" Deck:
You take out a pack of playing cards, spread them out and explain about the history of the tarot. You then go on to explain how standard playing cards can be used in a similar way.
Turn the cards face down, and spread them out on the table. Allow the participant to choose any card (no force).
You spend a few minutes "really driving home that you are about to reveal the true nature of their soul", describing what a few of the playing cards would mean.
Allow them to turn their card over to see what it reveals about them...
and enjoy their reaction!

"1CR":

The One card reaction is a magic trick with no sleight of hand, and no method.
You hand somebody a card, they turn it over, and experience a piece of magic that they will no doubt never experience again.

"Bonus effect":

PK B0llocks - credited to Chris Richards, this is an effect based on PK Touches, but involving that of a genital area...

Review

From the start I want to be honest and say that I purchased this at a discount price of 25% off (so for £15). Nevertheless, money is money so I was hesitant. Then I realised that Lawrence has never guided me wrong before, so took the plunge.

This

Is

Fantastic!!!!!!

Never have I ever come across a gimmicked pack of cards that gets a reaction close to that of the ID. Albeit due to the personal nature of the tarot the individual taking part will have a stronger emotional reaction, but everybody else enjoys the effect just as much.

The ILC deck is not for the serious tarot performer. It uses a standard pack of cards rather than tarot (though, standard tarot could be used but you would need to make up your own - Lawrence provides instructions on how to do so in the manuscript), though what c an be said without a doubt is that the emotional hook, should you wish it to be, is there. The reveal is, in itself, the trick - for me though, it was worth every penny. To see the reaction in the spectator's face is unlike anything before - it reminds me why I got into magic to begin with - it's just magical! This also comes with 6 refills, though I can't see myself needing them anytime soon.

The "1CR" I thought was a brilliant idea. Note that this is not a magic trick, but the illusion of a magic trick occurring. This was Lawrence's test idea of "removing method from magic", yet still getting the reaction. The instructions are clear and concise, as well as providing the background with relation to how this came about. When I turned over the one card reaction card I thoguht it was, once more, an idea that could only come from Mr Turner. This effect comes with 4 refills, as well as instructions on how to create your own card should you run out (though, the fact that he included "refills" and instructions on how to "make your own" was comedic genius!)

PK b0llocks? Funny, but not really magic...it was more of a joke for the purchaser. Don't buy the deck for this "bonus" - it isn't workable, but it is funny ;)

As an extra, he also included with mine an alternate "1CR" card inside an envelope with a question mark on it. Needless to say, it got a reaction, and there was nobody even about to see it!

Overall

ILC deck = 10/10 without a doubt

1CR version 1 - the "H" card - 5-6/10

1CR version 2 - the "G" card - 5/10

PK B0llocks - 0/10 (though at the same time, very funny! But the rating is based on workability!)

All is all, buy the package for the ILC deck - if you don;t, you will be missing out on a piece of genius. Everything else Lawrence includes is just a bonus. The ILC deck is one of the best ideas I have seen in a good while, and it is one of those effects that you just thing "damn...I wish I had thought of it!!!)

Love

This is a great review for what is in effect one of the bargains in magic today. While I'm not a big fan of the 1CR it is super easy and really does get a reaction every single time. It's more one to carry on you in case of an emergency or to have in your wallet at all times when asked to perform.

The ILC deck on the other hand I have used on many occasions and is a real worker especially for those more rowdy places but it can play in the most highclass of arenas as well. It's one I'm always prepared to perform and it plays big! Is it worth that extra bit of pocket space? Heck yeah, the reactions are louder and bigger than anything the the ID can produce. The ID gets gasps, applause and wonder, the ILC can get you all this and a whole lot more!

And don't listen to Beardy on the PK trick, ok so it can't play everywhere and you might want to leave it on most occasions it's a way better trick than the 0 suggests.

A truely great realease, thanks for bringing this to the market after so long of keeping this to yourself.

Buy this for the ILC alone and you will not be dissapointed, buy it for everthing contained within and you have not just a couple of tricks but a whole routine in the one package! What more could you ask for?

You have to PM Lawrence, as he is only doing it privately at the moment.

I still disagree with the fact that it is a "whole routine in one package" and stick with the ratings in my original review.

Do *not* get it for the "bonus" (which I still think is quite humorous) - but the ILC deck is just a very funny and entertaining (in the real world!) idea!

Having been a spec for the 1CR (H version) I can testify to the strength of this effect. My reaction to it stayed with me for at least the duration of the pint I was drinking at the time and could be heard excitedly mumbling "Ha, love it". And yes, I still have the card as a souvenir, so it's a definite worker as people will be talking about this long after.

Can someone please be a little more specific on what the actual effects is of ILC and 1CR? The initial post doesn't actually say anything more than 'enjoy their reaction' and 'experience magic'.

This obviously makes sense to those in the know, but to someone on the outside looking in I have no idea what the actual effects are.

The crazy thing is this is actually kind of the point, just getting the reaction; and it does get it.
I'm always saying "the method doesn't matter" now not even the trick matters.

If I'm out and about today i'll get some videos done that will ellaborate further.

Alternatively anyone else using either ILC or 1CR is welcome to post (though you know the rules!) :D

Having just had a demo of ILC and 1CR I can't really add more than Lawrence already has.

Apart from,

I Love It

This will definitely be coming to Spain with me this weekend!

I'll see if I can get a video done this weekend. It's the ideal trick for where I'm going. I'm already excited about it.

i really want to get this, and i completely trust everyone's great opinion of it...without having actually ever seen it in action...but at the same time, i love the fuzzy feeling you get when you see the reactions a great trick can get.

Lawrence - I got someone to record the ILC reaction while in Spain too, stupidly they did it on their phone not mine, but if I can get a copy I'll let you have it. In Magaluf, by far the best reaction came from women.
