Don Driver's "Building a Tip" video

Postby sleightlycrazy » Oct 9th, '11, 20:03

The Effect

While busking on the streets, people just aren't stopping to watch the show. The little foot traffic available simply walks by without giving a second glance. After using the stuff taught on this video, a large crowd suddenly appears. They watch the show and give a fat hat.

Cost

$30 for the DVD, $25 for a download

Difficulty

(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

1-2 Not a trick, but it does take some balls to do the first time.

Review

I've been busking for just about 2 months now. Street performing is tough, yet gratifying work. Routines get polished very quickly, since they get repeated over ten times a day for an audience that doesn't pay if you suck. Despite improving my show, presentation, and character a ton over the couple months of busking, the core skills of busking were still tough for me. I have trouble hatting people, and often get relatively small hats. And up until I studied this video, I found it difficult to get a crowd from scratch. I spent roughly 15-20 minutes every hour not performing for anyone, just trying to draw a crowd. I went out to Hollywood yesterday and put to use the concepts Zachary Strange describes in the DVD. Without even going into the verbatim pitch (which would have worked better than my use of the concepts), I drew a crowd every time I wanted to; within two minutes, I'd have enough people to get my show started. The cost of the video is 25 dollars. I made over 40 dollars more than I usually do, thanks to the concepts taught on this video.

Now, the production is nothing fancy. No graphics, no sparkly stuff. It doesn't need any. The information is presented clearly, the two live demonstrations show how effective it is, and Zachary Strange breaks down the underlying concepts in a way that allows you to modify the bally to fit your personality.

Overall

9/10 overall
11/10 for value and information

If you busk, this is a must buy.

Aw, thanks. Just as an added note, it wasn't a fluke that I made more money last week; my hourly pay was even higher this week. If any buskers out there still have doubts, BUY THIS.
