Sounds like a little bit of magician's guilt there; whilst - in terms of blocking out the performance - it does seem 'suspect' to *us*, I've never had this questioned by any spec so far (and I've used it bloody loads so far!).

As far as I can see, the specs' view - in terms of the way I ruffle through the compartments in their wallet - is simply that I am locating the card more quickly than they could, and then letting them do the final reveal.

Still, it's nice to have multiple uses available from one, simple gimmick, whicever one rings your bell! :D

I honestly don't think it's magician's guilt. That phrase often gets banded about when people refuse to accept flawed logic. Not necessarily in this case, but I think magician's are so quick to say "it just works, don't bother doing x, y or z...it's just magician's guilt." I think that we owe it to our audiences to at least think about the performance and not just accept it verbatim because our audience seemingly enjoy it, or other magician's praise it.

Nothing to do what with you said though, just a general observation.

As I say, just don't think it is the best use of the gimmick! It wasn't originally used for the effect, but as the U.C.C.U but what it got marketed under certainly sells it better!

I agree that it's probably not it's BEST use but the advertised effect is very strong in that it's actually achievable with this utility.

The problem we are all going to have is discovering its best use! As far as I can see, it allows you to make a signed card appear in virtually anything! (have I mentioned even under the specs beer mat!)

Anyone else had a new idea for using this?

Alec

Hmm..

having doubts about this now

I always seem to be disappointed when I purchase a gimmick

Very recently I bought Matchbook Odyssey - I would have reviewed it but to be honest it doesn't even deserve a review, it's awfulness can be summed up in one word, Awful!

My point being that so many gimmicks are sold as mini 'miracles' and are usually found to be pieces of cr*p that are just not worth the money.

I use to be content knowing all I needed was a deck and a few card magic books but then started getting interested in coin and other non card magic, that's when I discovered that a lot of rubbish is being sold out there.

I am going to watch more videos and read more reviews before I part with any more wonga.

Sounds like a good idea! I think we've probabaly all fallen for the hype and ballyhoo used to market magic on more than one occasion, in my case far more than one. The net result is that it tends to lead to a general distrust of any promotions for new stuff unless it's been demo'd live right in front of me!

...And I'm certain I'm not alone, when I suspect this sentiment also extends to Wine

Agreed although in this particular case the hype is justified

The gimmick is great and all but I wear small shirts and it doesn't fit if you know what I mean... The cards won't fit!
