Evenin' all

Postby magicarp » Oct 29th, '11, 20:39

Hey guys and gals,
Ive been studying (if that's the right word) magic for about 9 months and have spent a lot of time looking on this site and found it really useful, so first of all: many thanks to everyone!
I mostly stick to card magic but have been dabbling slightly in mentalism recently. I've found it a bit of a struggle not having anyone to talk to about magic, hence i've signed up here and it would be nice to try and repay the favour in terms of help and advice as best i can. At the moment I'm karmically screwed in this area which has resulted in an appalling hit rate with my classic force and my passes generally turning into a game of 52 card pickup :P

hopefully that hasn't contravened any exposure laws

Hey Will!

Welcome to the forum, mate - you'll have no shortage of folk to talk to now, you lucky puppy :D

You're actually one of the very few folk I've ever come across who's talking about using the classic force - why not use one of the more 'certain-hit' variants?

Have fun on the boards here, bud - great to welcome you to the nuthouse

cheers for the replies, most welcoming!
I just think the classic force is so open and convincing, you never get people questioning it because it seems so fair. If I'm going for something that cant be reset if it misses then i'll go for something else thats gonna hit 100%. So if i need them to hit a certain card in a stack i'd normally go for a riffle. The other thing is, you can repeat a classic force as much as you want and nobody catches on (as far as i've noticed :P ) but with something like a riffle, after a couple of times i find people get pretty suspicious. It wold be interesting to hear your thoughts anyway :)

The thing is, if they suspect a force then they suspect a force and you are probably doing something wrong, either in the mechanics or the presentation.

I use a variety of forces and when I'm not feeling overly confident I resort to the riffle. It has not been suspect in years. My question however is slightly different. Exactly how many times per performance are you forcing a card that they are becoming suspect? Why not force one card once and routine that card throughout your performance that way you don't have to repeat the actions of forcing a card. Then move into a coin trick or something.
