A 'thumbs up' or 'like' for posts that are funny or helpful

Postby wittyusername » Nov 1st, '11, 14:37

I notice alot of forums now have thumbs or like buttons,
Its good to know that people are finding your post helpful and youre not a rambler who no one listens to

I've wanted to like peoples posts in the past too.

Would be a good feature, however adding a response along with your appreciation for the previous post often sparks more interesting conversation.

it would have to be just a dropdown list of ,good, helpful, funny, etc or if you had a response it might take the thread off topic? you know like the thing youtube have just brought in- the 'reaction to this video' function

I like the plus or minus system, especially when questions are asked as you can quickly hone in on what is regarded as the most comprehensive answer, I will normally read that first then read back through the other responses for useful nuggets of info.

As Ace T said, when you reply to someone saying that there post was good it sparks a more interesting conversation.
I think a like button wouldn't work

I don't see how it couldn't work? all you are doing is giving a thumbs up, how many people just don't bother replying to a lot of stuff because it would mean they would be on here ALL day?
they would be more likely to just thumb up and the people who would usually reply would reply anyway.
It's not like i said just have a like button and disable all reply functions

A lot of this depends on the forums functionality too, it may not even be possible?

I like the idea of either a thumbs up button or, as I've seen before somewhere, a kudos/thanks button which gives the poster kudos points.

I'm not aware of a 'like' or 'dislike' feature for posts or threads, sorry,

I think the thanks system is available in phpbb. I've no idea how difficult this is to implement though...

Looks like a "like" mod was in development a year ago too...
