Quite a lot of the time, clicking new posts results in a page saying that the search facility cannot be used. What gives?

I used to use it, recently too. But every so often it showed that message, not all the time.
Instead I have resorted to clicking 'mark all as read', when I have finished with a section and don't want to read the other threads. Then I can see when there are new posts.
Though I am on this forum everyday and nearly all day, so they don't build up often.

I asked about this quite recently and apparently it's all to do with server load and usage. The same servers used for TM do a lot of other stuff, thereby subsiding TM to a certain extent, but when the traffic is going full volume the first thing which gets suspended temporarily is the View New Posts facility. The Forum Owner is working on the problem.

Yup been like that for ever ... part of the reason ive given up coming here now ... as it logs your visit, so when you try again it only shows posts from the unsuccessful log on

You should be able to see all 'missed' posts if you check 'View Unread Posts' and, if you scroll down the front page all rooms with new posts are highlighted with a red icon - not the best way of course but at least new posts are viewable several ways. Other than that, the situation usually gets resolved after a minute or so and the facility works fine.

I've tested this every hour today and it's worked fine each time, late evenings may be a problem as that's when the heavy traffic takes place. Mobile newtwork might suffer a bit, dunno really, all I can say is it works OK for me on my little HTC Wildfire but is always much slower - even on the big sites like Google etc. compared to the fixed home and business lines. Can you let me know the dates and times it happens again please? I'm keeping a log of such things just in case it helps isolate a particular problem which can be sorted easily.

Earlyish mornings and later evenings.

I posted about this in the support thing thread when it first changed over. I posted again, no-one managed to sort it for whatever reason.

This used to bug the heck outta' me, a few months back, but seems to be less of an issue, of late; when it *does* still happen, it seems to be pretty-much exclusively between 11pm-8am, but even then it's a diminishing problem

All the messages were passed on at the time but its only recently that there's been time to increase the server space to try and resolve things. As it's a fairly new version of phpBB there could be other reasons adding to the problems, sorry! As for me? Same as ever m'dear, same as ever
