Pure Smoke by Jason Brumbalow

Postby Danny Jay » Feb 9th, '12, 17:50

The Effect
A mass amount of smoke-like vapour is produced from the magician's hands.

Offical Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=alBapOpx3zA" target="_blank

Costing
  • Gimmick (Plus Access to Online Instructional Video): $147 / £93
  • Pack of Refills (850 Puffs of smoke): $24.95 / £16

Difficulty:
There is not really any sleight of hand required.. however Audience Management and Acting skills are essential.

Not only will these things keep the gimmick undiscovered, but the POWER of this effect, comes from how you perform it. It can be incredibly powerful and amazing; Otherwise it's just clear it's some form of fancy prop your carrying.

Review
As soon as you see the official trailer, your bound to have ideas flooding your head. it is great for ADDING to an effect, it is not an effect in itself.

Imagine if right before you vanish an Iphone it begins to flow with wisps of smoke, for example; the phone vanishes, leaving just thick-vapours in your hands.

The reactions range from terrified, shocked, amazed; but all in all, people forget about `Trick`. This little extra (almost subtle) touch is IT. If your able to set this up with the right storyline, suspense and drama, you're going to experience reactions like you've never had before!!

Rating
It is an expensive gimmick, but it is very powerful, and (personally) for me was a worth-while investment to help me stand out a little bit more.

I will give this product a 10/10, It gives amazing reactions, great inspiration and ideas for routines, and causes you to experiment in new ways. most of all, it makes your effects look like real magic. Imagine concealing the gimmick inside your close-up table and performing haunted deck. (Which, now I've mentioned this, have GOT to try this!!)

Oh! One more thing, here is a parody trailer (based on the official trailer) just for the laughs!: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQiU7xhEa78" target="_blank" target="_blank"

Danny, you've joined and all you've posted is two very positive reviews for Ellusionist products, perhaps you'd like to post something in introductions about yourself so we don't just assume that you're a sock puppet pushing a company's products.

Oh and welcome to Talk Magic! :D

I'm very tempted to get this. How practical is the wearability of the gimmick, is it something you could wear all day?

sounds like you had the wrong batteries in. I've used pure smoke quite alot. Several events I have worn it all day and find it pretty comfy and reliable. If you have the correct batteries in it makes little to no noise unless you have a completely silent audience in a silent room with all their hearing aids turn right up to 11.

I don't tend to work many of those

Overall, I'd have to say I'm more than happy with the device, though I originally thought the same thing regarding the noise - but after a test run found it to be completely imperceptible, even with the lowest of ambient noise. I also wasn't too keen on the devised hookups, but after some thought came up with a solution/alternate option and now use a setup in conjunction with a modified UCCU. Happy days.
