first of all: it's called 'coin extraction' on the emagictricks website but everyone will know it as coin unique
The Effect
you have a £2 and a 50p coin in yours (or the spectators) hand, you (they) close your (their) hand and the 50p disappears. Of course there are many ways this can be used as utility item as well as just the straight vanish. I know there's at least 2 or 3 other threads about this kind of thing so don't ask me, go and use the search button ya scallywag!
Cost £38
Difficulty 1.5
(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)
Review
First things first, at almost twice the cost of the £1/1p version, this is expensive, there's no getting around it. BUT, my word is a thing of beauteous wonder. There has been talk elsewhere on this forum of people being worried about the spec finding the gimmick, but with this i have no fear whatsoever, i've been using this for a couple of weeks and every time i have left it in the specs hand for them to inspect as closely as they wish and they have never found a thing. as a result i have found the gimmick a little hard to remove at times, there's no way i could do it without a m**n*t, but i think it is worth the sacrifice.
I love the colour contrast of the £2 coin and the 50p. I love that the 50p is a different shape to the £2 which makes it seem even more impossible (For those of you who already know how coin unique works, this point may be slightly baffling, and its a very sneaky solution they've come up with. And no, the orientation of the 50p doesn't matter).
Having not owned any other variations of coin unique I'm afraid i cannot compare, but to suffice to say i am over the moon with this one. This is a very well made piece of kit, top notch quality. So far i've just stuck to the coin vanish in the specs hands, equivoqe-ing the 50p, this is a real brain-melter when done in the specs hands and the unbelievably complicated solutions that people come up with has given me a good chuckle.
equivoque tip: the VAST majority in my experience choose the £2. If they do, don't say anything, just do the vanish, this is SO much stronger than saying 'okay you chose £2 so that leaves the 50p which we will make disappear and all that muck), once the £2 is left they will make the connection in their own mind. I did this to a magical matey who only does cards and knows full well about equivoque, and straight away he said 'what do you do if they choose the 50p?' ha! when they do choose the 50p i tend to say, okay, lets make it disappear, I'm not quite sure that doing the vanish without explaining in this situation will work, you may disagree.
Overall 9/10
beautifully made, beautiful effect, lose 1 point for the cost, but if i lose this (by which i mean spend it in the pub) i am definately buying another one straight away. very highly recommended.
