This n That

Postby Connor_M » Feb 21st, '12, 18:54

Ok this is a really simple trick
It only requires 3 blank cards and a bit of know

This n That

You take 3 cards and show a spectator/s 3 cards

One says THIS the 2nd says THIS and the 3rd says THIS
however not all is as it seems as now the bottom says THAT and so does the top and so does the middle
Now the big reveal
You turn over the top card to reveal THIS and then the 2nd to reveal THAT and then challenge the spectator to guess which one the last card is THIS or THAT
however you will now reveal it actully is the OTHER card

Like i said simple trick there is unfortunatley free tutorials of how to do this on youtube and im not sure as to who owns it
Good little trick as no one ever guesses the end and requires little talent definatley a good one for new starters in cards
its a short trick tho with some clever patter and performance will amaze everytime

Last time I met Greedoniz he showed he this with the most brilliant of patter and it works so well

So simple but with the right patter can be turned into a thing of beauty

Agreed i have the commonly used 'man comes up to me in the street' version but i like to challange the audience so im trying to write my own challenging patter without giving too much away

NOT EASY !!

If you get a chance to make a London meet I'll get him to show you, with the right patter it really is a fantastic little routine

But its the patter that makes it different, and better imo

C'mon then, Greed...we'd love you to share your patter on here, so everyone can see how great presentation can elevate a 'simple' effect into a true piece of entertainment.

Pretty please?? :D

I believe this routine has its roots, in the classic Edward Victor E.Y.E card trick.
and in fact, the Elmsley count, used the world over by every card man there is, was directly inspired by the EYE count.
this was first sold in 1952, and continues to be sold to this day.

Ok so i just realised i missed a small bit of the beginnig of the trick but u can get what happens and how to do it if ur good with cards which MOST of you are on here
Anyways
The patter is
A man comes up to me in the street and shows me three cards (upside down and reveal one then turn over and move to a seperate place) THIS card THIS card and THAT card. And he challenges me to follow THAT card and as he does his he moves it to the bottom
So i say its at the bottom and he says no thats THIS card
So it must be on top then, no sorry thats also THIS card.
Well if its not on top or bottom it must be in the middle ? No sorry thats also THIS card
So i said thats cheating you must have removed the THAT card
He says no its at the bottom (show THAT on bottom) and its also on the top and in the middle (show THAT in these positions)
I said well you must be cheating show me the cards then
So the guy replies to me youve gotta remember one thing in life, you get a little bit of THIS (turn THIS over) a little bit of THAT (turn THAT) and not alot of the OTHER (turn over final card so all are visible)

Thats the patter sorry if its hard to follow its easier if you see it as you hear it.

At the risk of giving it away
its simple sleights and thats it
You end clean and cards can be observed

I found also that if you dont have blank cards to do this using 3 different cards but saying they are diff cards
Requires a bit of blaging but we magicians should be good at that

I end my This n That a little differently. After laying the three out face down (so the order from my left ot my right is OTHER, THAT, THIS) I pick up THIS and use it to mexican turnover THAT, which I then use to mexican turnover OTHER, which leaves it in my hand and seems like the THIS I started with has transformed as I display it.

I like my ending.

My Patter:-

Monday morning you get to work and get some of THIS,
Then your boss gives you some more of THIS.
You are watching the clock, You can't wait to get home 'cos you might get some of ...THAT [yeah, sexual innendo moment]

Tuesday you get to work and it start again with some of THIS
Followed by more of THIS.
and if you're lucky in the evening you might get some of THAT.

Wednesday... yeah its getting boring now,
Weekdays are like that, boring, repetitive, monotonous.

That's why we have weekends.
Saturday you have a lie-in and (if you're lucky,) you might get some of THAT
Followed by more of THAT !!
but at weekends only a little bit of THIS....... we like weekends ?

Somedays the pressure is on at work and you get some of THIS, followed by THIS....... and then......you stupidly take THIS home with you.

Then you have a holiday where you get some of THAT, followed by THAT followed by more of THAT.

In this life there is too much of THIS,
and not enough of THAT.
So what do we all want more of????? .....

NO...the OTHER.

by the way I was thinking THIS represented tea and coffee during the day; THAT represented wine in the evening... not sure what you were thinking about, but we won't go there !

[occasionally a young lady asks me.... How did you do that?... oh the innendo]

Have fun.
