Go and see Paul Daniels live - he does six card repeat, chop cup, card to wallet and more of the same. I can hear the U Tube Magicians (?) shrinking back in horror muttering "Is that all he does?" However it is entertaining and the audience love it. NO 'cross over diaganol palm shifts with a double undercut and false latest jiggery pokery, or whatever - I am sure you get my drift. What PD does is entertain the audience with some basic and classic tricks. 'Nuff said!!

My other half had never seen Paul Daniels before we saw him live (She's American) and she was totally blown away. He is a physically small guy who fills the stage with his personality.

Personally I'd gladly pay money to watch him just do the chop cup routine all night.

Paul Daniels has a solid place in the Hall of Magic Fame for a very good reason - presentation!

Mr Daniels truely is a master, his personality, charisma and performance are what leaves his audience spellbound.

Yea this is one of those irritating ones we get a lot isn't it?

Found that the best resolution on a regular basis that i've found is this;

"What do you do?"
"I'm an entertainer, you?"

Whilst they tell you about insurance, plan a trick in your head, and when they inevitably enquire further, just show them your moves - don't say anything.

Its a visual art, so a visual response is best.

If they don't go on about insurance an ask straight away, write a few responses now which sound good. Many questions and events repeat in every gig, so you can prepare by scripting good answers.

This does not mean write a joke for everything. Thats tedious and you'll come across fake, especially if its out of character.

Define your character well - what would I say in this situation?

Ones. Obviously. Of all the numbers, the ones are the most irritating. Bloody ones. All upright and singular. G*b*h*t*s! :x

I dunno, according to something I read in the Daily Mail, sevens not only look laid back, they are all on the dole, regularly divide into fractions in order to get council housing and probably cause house prices to drop and I heard from a friend of a friend they eat swans.

That's the problem. All these odd numbers coming over here, just for the benefits.
