But there is a big move by some performers I know, the are moving away from magician and even away from mentalist into something else. It is where we came from and where I believe some of us will go back to. I know I am heading there myself slowly.

I went to a lecture last year with a magician who grew up with a speech impediment which caused him alot of embarassment when he was younger. As a result of that he favoured performing silently to music and put together a very successful dove act that he toured round Europe and UK and was was successful with the dove act for over a decade and is still performing magic now. Some of us are given obstacles and disabilities in life that we have to over come, it just means that we have to work harder to succeed. So if, as you say, someone has no charm, no speaking ability, no empathy, then I think these are not so much disabilities but just small things they can work harder at. As has been suggested they can do this by exaggerating aspects of their personality that do work, or adopting character that gives them a greater stage presence.

If you see a magician doing all his tricks wrong and the audience love him anyway then you know you have seen a good magician. And no. I am not talking about Tommy Cooper here either. It is better if the magician does the tricks correctly but in the end it isn't the trick that matters. The performer is always more important than the trick.

I would say that only one out of twenty magicians are female. It is about time some learned psychogist figured out why.

I don't think my problem is people having bad experiences with previous performers.most people I encounter have never seen a magician before.I tend to ask people to know what tricks not to do occasionally.

My problem is the over all bad name stereotype that magicians have.even though people see magicians like Keith Barry David Blaine dynamo and Derren on tv,they still associate magic with bunnies and kids

You're suposed to make them move in the spectators hands  that's where I've been going wrong all these years then

Yup - using them to play conkers isn't quite the done thing y'know!
