Thanks Dave for taking the time to explain - those instructions are going to save me a lot of rope! And yes I have seen your video. And I think it is absolutely brilliant (and the Satriani soundtrack is cool too 8) ) I am amazed why it hasn't been brought up yet in this review! So for those of you who don't know, I have included a link to a thread titled: "THE ONE ROPE TRICK" which contains three links to where dat8962 is performing a few different variations of Richard Sanders' Fibre Optics routine. So click on the link below and get ready to be pleasantly entertained (and totally confused)!

P.S. Make sure you don't miss out on the third link which is at the bottom of the aforementioned thread (that link and the first one are my favourites).

Out of curiosity, where are you buying your rope?

I posted something a while ago on rope but can;t find it at the moment, it was about a year ago now.

The best rope that I've found is at http://www.houseofmagicuk.co.uk and they sell for 45p per metre when buying 10 metres or more. They have red, blue, yellow and white and it's the best rope that I've found.

You don't get any rope fluff from it which is a constant pain when you're performing with cheap cotton rope and wearing a suit. You're forever having to brush yourself down

it's also gret ot have a variety of colours to perform with instead of just boring white.

To be honest Dave, I bought my rope years back from some department store. It is not very good rope but I guess it still does the job.

But what I have heard on other forums (which you probably are aware of) is that Elite Magician's Rope from Camirand Academy is considered to be some of the best rope you can use for rope magic. Apparently it is also the same rope that Richard Sanders uses to perform on Fibre Optics -and it is even packaged with his Three Ropes and a Baby routine.

It is sold with a diameter of 7mm (parlor size) or 10mm (stage size) and in a length of 10 metres

In the U.K at http://www.magictricks.co.uk you can find the 7mm for:
£7.99 (it's not that cheap!)

In the U.S at http://www.mjmmagic.com you can find the:

7mm:
$9.45 USD (£5.45)
$8.50 USD (£4.90) *

10mm:
$23.70 USD (£13.65)
$21.33 USD (£12.29) *

* with returning customer discount

the aforementioned sites seem to only supply this rope in White UV Luminescent. But you can find the 7mm rope available in Red, Yellow, Green & Blue (in Canada & U.S.) at:
http://www.camirandmagic.com $12.75 USD (£7.35)

I have also read a comment from a guy in a U.S forum that he prefers the Deluxe Soft White Rope made by Fun, Inc. which apparently is exclusively sold at: http://www.dennymagic.com He claims it has the same brightness and is the same size as the Elite Magician's Rope but softer. 50 Feet (15.25m) of rope at 3/8" (9.5mm) thick is sold for $15.00 USD (£8.65).

My guess is that most people in the UK would be familiar with the Deluxe Magicians Rope sold at Penguin Magic - 18 feet of rope for £7.55. I have read some good comments and a couple of not-so-good ones about this rope but I have obviously never tried it.

As I am from Australia, I would normally buy from the U.S. - because I tend to get more value for my currency and generally cheaper shipping costs. And as you can see mjmmagic.com sell the Elite Magician's Rope for the best price and I have yet to find a site that sells it cheaper - so that is why I have recently placed an order with them. But as for those of you in the U.K, once again you have to take shipping costs into account. So Dave, at the price you seem to be purchasing your rope for; it seems to me your getting good value for your money.

By the way, in relation to a previous post of yours, I too have never come across black rope for magicians.

I've recently got fiber optics and have stated performing it (well parts of it) and all I can say is wow!
I have got some fantastic reactions and managed to stop a busy pub on a friday night with this routine. It's great seeing peoples jaw hit the floor when you turn two ropes into one...lol

As far as rope colour goes I wonder whether black rope is as visible and startling as white rope?

To be honest Dave, I bought my rope years back

Crikey :? Year? I go through an average of 60 metres a month. I suppose my stock would last you a lifetime  I've got about 300 metres stashed away in the corner, just in case my dealers supply dries up.

I've not used Elite but have heard that it's good. I have some white that I bought from International Magic which is top notch and I save it for special occasions (sad I know) .

I've tried most, if not all UK suppliers and some is really poor. As stated, House of Magic is about the best that I've found in the UK and they provide a very good service.

As for black rope, I just want to play around on creating some unusual effects. I like the idea of it being difficult to see and aim to try and create something that plays on this.

Really?? What are you doing with them?? A rope-eating routine?
I always thought I can do some shows with a couple of meter rope for years..

Depends on the routine as to how long the rope lasts.

If I'm performing Fibre optics I perform it as my 'Variation' routine where I start with a single piece of rope that's cut and then joined back up at the end. The rope cannot be re-used afterwards but I get paid for the majority of my performances so it's not as if I'm out of pocket. I use about 2.5 metres per performance

If I'm also doing a ring and rope routine then once again, the rope is cut and can't generally be re-used, although you can keep some of the longer bits for practice.

It's also nice to give the remaining rope away afterwards (excluding any ends) and you can watch the specs scrutinising the rope as they try to work out how it worked.

MS Bluetooth Notebook Mouse 5000 not working

Postby vacyInvoday » Sep 22nd, '11, 16:21

Hi durden

I have the ACER aspire 4820T that comes with bluetooth inbuilt. I have the Microsoft bluetooth mouse 5000. I have always been using it with no problems. Suddenly it stopped working.

As usual, I thought I can just re-installing it by using the pairing function under the bluetooth panel "Add a device". Best part is the wizard just keeps going and never stops. My mouse is already in pairing mode.

Next check under devices/printers and believe it or not, it appears as indicated. However under the bluetooth control panel (Show Bluetooth devices), no mouse. In the devices & printers panel, the mouse shows up.

I cannot use the mouse or do a manual installation.

I have also tried to upgrade the drivers for the bluetooth and still not working. Tried the mouse with another computer and no problem. Can anybody advise how to do a reset of the bluetooth module or settings?

Short of a complete reinstallation of win 7 (which I hope to avoid just for one mouse), I have run out of ideas.

Hope somebody can render any insight as to how to resolve the issue.

Durden, did you contact Acer support about this? I tried to but they just blame the mouse and software? Any luck on your side?

Thanks for reading.
