Hug or Kill trick?

Postby jaredmagician » May 11th, '12, 18:05

Hello everyone,
I remember seeing an effect a couple of months ago and couldn't decide whether to get it or not, but i saw it live yesterday and it got a great reaction, so i thought i would get it, then I couldn’t think what it was called! synopsis: the magician has about 6 cards numbered 1-6 with prizes written on the back a spectator is asked to choose a number and the performer turns the card around to show it says hug, as the hugs the spectator he shows the audience the back of the rest of the cards and they all see the other cards say kill. If anyone has any idea what it is called, I will be very grateful, many thanks.

Some excellent stage variations scattered around but it is most likely you saw Diceman by Andy Nyman.

I have a feeling Eddie Burke has a version. At the end you should take out a 'blood' soaked hanky and say "Thank goodness for that, it took ages to bury the body last time"

Big Brother's Tawdry Little Sister by Doug Segal uses the same principle - see http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=shrhj5NnEJQ for a performance.

Oh no, i watched a video and its not the same exactly, the cards were big and attatched to a rod, but i can only guess it uses the same principle? and could i make one like that myself? there on a rod and the spetator takes their card out and shows it says hug, and as you hug them the other side of the cards are shown saying kill.

Here is the problem. The effect is just an effect. It didn't get a great reaction. The performance of the effect got a great reaction. Keep that in mind before you part with your cash. Just because it got that performer a great reaction does not mean you will get that reaction. The real trick to magic is performance.

I am thinking this version sounds very much like it uses Fogels forcing labels which can be picked up from Mr E :D
