If Dynamo had made this you'd all be laying into him for using an obvious actor.
Agreed. Derren did a show a few years back with some guy called David and I am sure I have seen him in one or two things on the telly.
Joking apart, there could be many things that happened off-screen that explain why Steve is not acting quite as you might expect and how Derren put him under so quickly. We don't know what "reality" Steve was programmed to see. Same with any apparent continuity errors: Derren could have gone in and "mind-wiped" Steve, then started a scene again.
The question about why people would head to Wales or Scotland is particularly odd. First, if the bacteria-carrying meteors (bacteria that cause a
viral zombie plague...) hit the South East of England, then the parts of the country furthest away would be safest. Second, if you watched the show, you'd have seen they are setting up a choice where Steve must decide whether to stick with Ian/Iain and head to Scotland, or try to find his family in Wales. At least, that's how I see it developing.
Why isn't he hungry or thirsty? Because if he hadn't had any water for 14 days, he'd be dead, wouldn't he?
There's a real sense of people casting around to pick holes, even if the clever points actually make no sense.
It is a TV show and you do not see everything. The show involves hypnotism/suggestion and this can account for almost any inconsistency in props, reactions, appearances etc.
It's also not terribly surprising if someone who had an interest in acting and appearing on one of Derren's shows turns out to be quite suggestible and good at putting himself into a role.
Anyway, I really enjoyed the first show and am looking forward to the rest of the journey to the Emerald City.
