Nina Conti - A Ventriloquist's Story: Her Master's Voice

Postby Tomo » Jun 9th, '12, 12:32

BBC4, Sunday 10th June, 9pm

From the Radio Times:

This outside-the-box doc follows comedian and ventriloquist Nina Conti on a most peculiar pilgrimage. We backtrack to when she was bequeathed a chest of dummies by her former mentor and lover Ken Campbell after his death in 2008. But now she has reached a crossroads in her career. So she takes her felt-and-fur friends — some cute, others creepy — to a special convention in Kentucky.

At the Vent Haven gathering we see astonishing examples of “distant voice” expertise, and Nina — daughter of Tom Conti — even uses her props to voice deeply personal confessions.

The film seems unsure of what it wants to be — it’s certainly disturbing at times — but you will learn what bifurcation means.

Nina is Tom Conti's daughter and the lover of the late Ken Campbell? Blimey! That's worth a look all on its own.

I was lucky enough to work alongside Nina on the comedy circuit when she was starting out. A great act and a really nice person.

Well, Ms Conti turned out to be quite a complex character to say the least!

I dont think she is any more complex that 99% of the people on here.
I adored the program, as did all the puppets sat in an arm chair in my lounge.

I thought the scene where she took Gran for a swim, was one of the most touching things ive seen in many a year.
And the little lad who ended up with Ken, is such a lucky lad.
I wish i had seen more of crow though. That character was sweet. :)

you're like Yoda.you dont say much, but what you do say is worth listening to....
