Hello

Hello everyone,

My names Steve and I'm 30 years old and I have just started to learn some basic card tricks. I have always been interested in magic, and I am now finally doing something about it. I have bought a very basic magic set and I am starting to learn some very easy tricks.

Its such a good feeling to see peoples reactions to even simply tricks, that it has given me the motivation to really pursue my interest.

I would appreciate any advice that anyone could give me on the best place to start.

I live in Northern Ireland and if anyone can advise me of clubs or places to visit I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks

SC

Hiya and welcome along to TM. One of the best things to get you started would be a copy of Mark Wilson's Complete Course, a great book that covers all sorts of different areas of magic.

Welcome to talkmagic Steve.

The book mentioned above is available from Amazon at around £10 which is excellent value and is pretty much all you need to get started. Also worth mentioning are Royal Road To Card Magic and Bobo's Modern Coin Magic.

It's interesting (and also sometimes a bit annoying after all that practice) that sometimes the simpler tricks work so much better than more complicated, difficult ones. After all, what counts is what the spectator sees, not what actually happens.
