I don't like them either, which is why I was trying to avoid using one for this lecture, but it just happens that it's the best way to achieve what I'm aiming for in these circumstances. As tears go the Busch one is cleaner than the others I've tried.

In the real world I usually use a peek wallet, but that wouldn't work here. I also considered a switch and peek, or Acidus Novus, but I could have angle problems.

I Think the centre tear can work really well theatrically. Its not an everyday method for getting info I will admit. But I think the tearing and burning of paper can add much drama in the right hands.

I know that this thread is a few years old BUT i have a positive comment to make regarding "peek performances" which will be of interest, i hope
There is an effect on page 79 which Busch calls "21st Century Imagery".. This is a superb piece of Professional mentalism that I use all the time.
LOOCH does a version which I think he calls "Memories".
IMHO this effect is worth the price of the book.
