New TM Area Suggestion

Postby Aza » Aug 28th, '12, 21:13

So i have been browsing various sites for magic books and had a little thought.

We all suggest to the newbies the bibles....Royal Road, Bobo's, 13 Steps and so on.....

Why don't we create an area that would have suggestions for Cards, Coins, Sleights, Mentalism etc. and start with the Basic books then progress through to intermediate, advanced etc. and avoid at all costs (maybe on the last one)

This would be quite useful i think in helping people pick the right books, we could also possibly incorporate a book recycling scheme? (not sure if this would be popular) but if somebody is done with a book, surely it would be better to pass on or sell for a relatively small price to the newbies here?

Much love

Again, this has been suggested before but although we mostly agree on certain books being basic, after that the suggestions tend to all go off in different directions so we end up with a list rivalling the Bodlean Library, full of worthy but personal preferences. We might be able to do a basic list but any additions would need to be carefully checked and there's a good chance that people could be offended if their choices aren't included.

As for a book exchange, at the moment TM rules don't permit trade of books, magazines, DVD, Videos or any other item like that. The basic guideline is that if you can use the content of something after you've traded it then it can't be offered via TM. This is to avoid people buying things, getting the secrets and selling them on whilst sill being able to perform the routine afterwards. Difficult but due purely to scammers and counterfeiters in the past, sorry.

M,

That's completely understandable, i just was thinking around saving the planet what with all the books that are printed each year and the amount that go to landfill, which saddens me slightly....

I would say the basic list would be a good place to start then we could have a big discussion as to what constitutes intermediate and advanced etc. with the Mods having final say so on the list?

That way we could guide and shape the newbies to magic and save them some money in the process....

Much love

Couldn't this be a sticky thread in "The Reference Library" rather than a whole new area.
