Hey guys,
It does say introductions so sticking with the theme of this topic I shall introduce. My name is Matt/Matthew (I don't have two names, they are the same, one is just a shortened version) and I'm from the UK.
I think the first trick I performed in public was when I was 8/9 years old and it was a coin through pocket trick. That was 9 years ago and since then I've been in and out of magic like a *insert cheap joke here*. It's only been around 3 years ago that I started seriously learning, reading everything I can, listening to everything I can and watching everything I can whether that be performance or explanations of tricks.
I have been into card magic since forever and probably the thing I consider myself strongest in, closely followed by Mentalism which I have been doing for the last year and half (so I'm pretty new to that). I also like to do close-up/stage magic with common objects and I like everything, whether magic or mentalism, to be done with organic objects, so I don't tend to do anything that requires a "magic" prop.
I currently have a strong interest in the history of the methodology behind effects and I'm always glad to find some gem in a really old book that can play just as well as many "New" releases today (I quote new because like many people say 90% of tricks today are just up-to-date old tricks). As well as this I don't like to perform many routines that I have seen thousands of times, maybe this is just me and my hipster self talking...
In terms of proffesionally doing it, I would love to start working seriously and getting paid doing what I love after I finish college. I have always loved the more resturant type setting or something like a cruise ship. Basically something that has a steady pay. I realize this takes experience so I'm just trying to perform whenever I can, I have my first proper paid gig in 15 days but I have performed a one-time 45 minute stage show, a few birthdays and I perform whenever I get the chance at college/in public.
I won't go on any longer because I'm not that interesting but I'm always looking to help and socialize with fellow magicians/mentalists so you can message me anytime for a chat about anything :)
Hope to see you around!
