Sinister - Homicide trilogy - by Outlaw Effects

Postby Iceman » Oct 10th, '12, 22:55

Hello, good evening!

First of all, I hope I'm not posting this in a wrong forum (if so, I apologize Mandrake!). This is a review request, well sort of...

I was reading a lot of old topics on the forum and came across the Homicide trilogy of Outlaw Effects. I read the review of Sinister, made in 2006:
sutra125654.php
As a criminologist this subject really got my attention, especially as I'm trying to create a show, just about crime. To me, it could be a valuable addition. Demitri, who did the review, was extremely positive about Sinister (the latest BT of the trilogy) in 2006. When I started to do some more research I read quite a few negative topics on Talkmagic about the company and the owner, though.

When I checked the website of Outlaw Effects I saw that they only offer the entire trilogy (for 125$) and not just the Sinister BT. Maybe I'm incorrect (I can't find a lot of details on the three books) but, I've got the feeling that Sinister is an updated version on the previous two. So why would you wanna buy all three of them? Please tell me if I'm wrong here!

Maybe you're wondering why I'm even asking about these books, as I'm writing about the negative things I read on the web... Well, as they still fit in my show, and Demitri was very positive in his thorough review (and I couldn't find another review on here) I'm still interested. I could build a few nice stories around the books! So I was wondering:
- what are your experiences with the trilogy?
- are you going to use the first two books if you have Sinister?
- is this worth the price (I mean, there are so many BT's for sale)?
- are there any reasons not the buy from Outlaw Effects? I didn't know about them till a few months ago and I heard positive and negative stories!

Thanks a lot, and I'm very interested in your opinions!

The three are different (one's a 'list of victims' another is a 'pawnbroker's book' and the third is a 'list of criminals') and all are heavily gimmicked and allow you to inter link the three, unfortunately I can't really say much more than that as I ordered these back in July and I'm still waiting...... :(

So, there are still huge problems over orders.

My experience of Outlaw is great products, good service over some things, terrible service in respect of aged items. Rick, who owns Outlaw, was supremely helpful over things like a splitting Kioku card (he sent me a replacement, no fuss) and things like Kioku got sent out quickly. The antiqued effects, however, take time to age and I got the impression that he really struggled to keep up with demand. I'd hoped he might have got that sorted out by now, but clearly not.

The last thing that I was to get from him was actually bought by my wife as a sort of engagement present (after all, I had bought her a nice ring, so she offered to get me a little something in return; naturally I opted for some spooky books). We never got the last part of the order (Luna 1934), in spite of chasing.

How did things pan out?

Did everybody receive all their items in the end?

It's a shame as I would happily buy every single item on the menu (literally) but won't part with a penny until these issues have been resolved.

I chased them again and was told that they held back the sinister trilogy when I ordered Luna so they could send them together......Mmmmm.

They are, I'm told, in the post, if they arrive I'll post an update.

I contacted Rick (who is a really friendly guy!) and he assured me that he can ship Luna upcoming weekend and the Homicide Trilogy somewhere next week. So, if that is going to happen that sounds good for you people! :D

I think I'm gonna give it a shot, but I'm not sure if it's gonna be the Luna Trilogy or the Homicide Trilogy. Homicide fits my show better, but Rick recommends Luna much more. Is it true that Luna is more examinable for the spec? Heckler, you wrote Homicide is heavily gimmicked, but you can actually hand them out right? Would you guys just go for one of the Luna books or is there a reason to go for all of them?

Doubts.. Doubts... Doubts... Rational me tells me to just go for what fits my show best... But still... Any suggestions my friends?

When I get it I'll tell you.....

But I suspect like most book tests you wouldn't want to leave them with the spectator, but the obvious methods are ruled out in the ad blurb so I suspect the method isn't blatantly obvious.

On the 18/10 when I chased again they were 'shipped' and would arrive the following week.

No, despite asking for one.

It's entirely possible that the latest delay is the result of mail stuck somewhere in a us mail office which is why I'm not sending grumpy emails on a daily basis. However if we're a week from now and still nothing........
