From the title of this thread I was expecting a rant!

ha ha... Could well have been, I have been known for my rants!

I suspect this DVD set has nothing really new to show but as someone who has always struggled with coin magic I'd be interested to hear about it's instructional quality etc. It's a 'new' product for Alakazam but may have been around for a while also.

If you've struggled with coin magic in the past, this probably isn't for you. A solid understanding of the basics is definitely required.

Lenoir - long time no speak - I struggle with certain flourishes, not coins per se. Does this DVD present anything in an instructionally effective way?

The instruction is pretty solid, but the concepts are generally pretty advanced. Some people will also dislike the fact that certain clothing requirements are occasionally required...but not your normal suit jacket..occasionally a hoodie etc.
It's a nifty DVD though... a lot of coin magic suffers from being unbelievably old fashioned and are focussed solely on the performer. This is a pretty young and fresh look at coin magic...if that is what you're after.

For added hilarity, check out the cafe thread where for about 6 pages you have people talking about boycotting it because of the name. You couldn't make it up.

dam I go away to london with my other job and you ask about a dvd I have, its good but dubbed and the only "shocking" bit is the titles on each section.
theres some nice use of a certain coin gaff nothing to get steamed out of your shell about but a nice take on a jw change with a record scratch styley, and good use of the large lighters that the youth of today use and yes a hoodie is used often but it does give you some great ideas on how to use regular clothing insted of a jacket and some of the complete vanishes are inspired.

Is there a non-dubbed version available anywhere?

Being dubbed doesn't bother me so long as the instruction is pretty good and solid.

Magicdiscoman + Lenoir - what coin set would you recommend to buy with the DVD's? And is it available any cheaper than Alakazams price?

the dvd recomends a shell and or a DF'er for some of the routines as for price I got mine from worldofmagic when it was exclusive.
