E1 - Ken Dyne

The Effect

They Say:

After openly asking six members of the audience to write down “Any random word” on to a piece of card each, the cards are collected and given to your on stage participant.

The smily, bright eyed, attractive young lady is asked to look through the six words, and if by any chance any of the words happen to be the same, discard it from her mind but to look over all of the cards, “they are all different words, right?”

“Yes” she replies.

“Go ahead and secretly chose one. But please, this choice is important. It is yours, it must be a choice you are making right now, consciously looking at the different words and decide which one you would like to go with.

“Before you make your decision, there is one word inside of this envelope, I’m hoping to have influenced one of these six people to think of this word, and now I’m hoping to guide you right to it.

So this choice, is pretty important.”

She secretly chooses a word.

The word is the ONLY one in the envelope and the envelope can be given away.

Review

Ok, yes this is £37 for one method. However, bear in mind that this is a professional piece of mentalism from Ken's act he performs for corporate clients. How good is this? After reading through once i began to arrange to get the pieces needed to perform this to put into my 2013 stage show (i may do this during my Christmas corporate shows as well). What we have here is a professional, strong, commercial and easy piece of mentalism that really packs a punch. This is a great routine in itself that can be adapted, the reveal of the word is what this is really all about and it is such a clever method, it's very clever in fact and one that you will love using.

The method / routine is very easy to perform and i cannot see anyone struggling with this. You do need a few things but nothing hard to get or make yourself, you do not need any magical props for this. There is no real performance script in the PDF (39 pages) but it does not need it as the method is the most important thing here. Ken has produced some great material all from his shows and this is his best release since Whisper (which i adore and use in every stage show and even a parlour show). I hope people will not be put off by the price, you have to understand that this is a professional piece and you get a solid method here.

Although Kennedy designed this as a stage piece you can do this at tables (in a different form which he mentions), i am going to be working on the table version next week , this will also work as a casual piece that you can keep in your jacket pocket.

Overall

10/10 Solid piece that many will use

I took a chance of this, purely on recommendation, but it's a great effect with some seriously clever thinking and a lot of legwork behind it. The jiggery pokery is straightforward and just about anyone can do it successfully. There are no fiddly props, no deviously clever James Bond type gadgets, no radically expensive items to buy, just the usual card, markers, envelopes and so on - the rest is pure presentation. A great stage routine and I can't wait to see what the close up version looks like!

When i do my showreel for the new mind reading site (coming 2013), this will be one of the featured effects on it.

I know Kens products are aimed at professionals and I hate to sound like I'm fishing. But will the specs all experience the same effect? As a casual performer (currently) feel free to ignore/berate me if you like :)

It's certainly designed to be a very strong stage or cabaret piece but would work equally well as 'parlour magic' and in similar environments.

Hey guys. . . how easy is this to do "improvisational" vs. stage or formal show setting?

There is a version you can keep in your jacket pocket, I tested this earlier and all was well.

Hi guys, picked this up about a week ago with the intention of using it purely as a pocket piece. Has anyone figured a way to eliminate the 't*b' issue in a close up setting? A bit of memory work is so far the only possible solution ive been able to come up with, so I'd be extremely grateful for any help you can afford me. I can verify ownership of the effect if need be.
Thanking you in advance.

Update: Perhaps should have allowed this one more gestation time. Ideas now coming thick and fast.
