The Prodigal

Postby seamagu » Nov 7th, '12, 21:30

Hi Everyone,

I finished reading 'The Prodigal' by Atlas Brookings the other day and have to say the content now makes up about 40% of my routine.

I can't really go into the particular method that the book teaches, if I did then alot of you would not go near it.

It basically teaches you how to divine a freely thought of word under various circumstances. I have used the method 3 times in the last 2 days and it is great fun.

I was skeptical at first but once you read through it it really makes sense. I'm pretty new to mentalism and the author gave me a copy to review as I had mentioned to him my skepticism for the method and he wanted to see if the book would do what he set out to which was to convert people to using the particular method.

Whilst there is really only one method there are a huge amount of effects and potential. I particularly like it as it can be used to great effect if you are going for the psychological mentalist approach. That is not to say it can't be used for psychic effects.

Effects

Book test (ungimmicked)
mindreading
body language reading
superhero divination
newspaper test
over the phone effects(huge potential)
email effects Send 10 emails and get the spectator to choose 1, reveal which one the spectator is thinking of.

and lots more.

Value
As I said, I got a review copy of this. It is retailing for $40 but the value is huge.
If you are a fan othe method you will be pleased, if you are not a fan of the method, you soon will be!

Atlas also has a private community set up to discuss the book, method and applications which have already seen contributions from the likes of Greg Arce, Atlas and myself :-) Access to this community adds even more value to the book.

I know I am a bit vague but I don't really want to give the game away. If anyone here as bought the book they will know why.

Also, you may think I am bias as I had a review copy. Maybe I am, but it still does not change the fact that I found the book to be really, really good, the content is clear, to the point and contains no nonsense info which I have not seen in many other books.
If I did not find it so useful I would simply not post a review.

so out of 10 I would have to give it 8 (I'm taking 2 away as the method does require some memory work)

Just on the memory work, some genius on 'The prodigal' private facebook page posted up a neat method for speeding up the learning of the effects using a free google service!!!

regards,

Sea.

Thanks for the kind words Sea! I've also received some very positive feedback from a ton of other readers, including Colin McLeod, Dr. Todd Landman, and Jon Thompson.

For anyone interested in learning more, the ad copy is below:

"Most of us have seen those shows on television where someone takes something to a flea market or rummage sale only to have an expert in possession of a trained eye come along and see through all the age, dust and patina that comes with neglect to discover a hidden gem, a priceless and coveted item.

All too often in Mentalism, a method is not what we expected or wanted it to be. As a result of our perceptions, we walk away and leave it behind. Over time, it is forgotten and gathers dust until one day, some expert comes along and shows us just how amazing this little item truly could be if it was polished and lovingly repaired rather than cast aside, scorned and esteemed as naught. Only then is our true appreciation won.

The Prodigal was written with the sole intention of demonstrating the value of one misunderstood and much maligned method, and offers glimpses of masterworks that can be built with it.

It offers a true demonstration of pure mental powers - void of pencils, scraps of paper, envelopes, gimmicks, or any of the accompanying apparatus that walk hand-in-hand with other effects and immediately serve to trigger skeptical reactions in our audiences - suspicious that they are being deceived, just unsure as to how.

The Prodigal examines the method by which you can create pure, direct mind reading - miracles that can be performed whilst in a straight jacket, with no props at all if you so choose.

As others are fond of stating - "You can perform this naked."

The Prodigal offers you strong, convincing Mentalism in its purest form.

90 pages long, this book offers up a number of solid close-up and stage-worthy mind reads, bolsters performance material based on psychological forces, offers methods of performing impressive ungaffed book tests, and outlines a means by which actions taken in radio studios or corporate headquarters hundreds of miles away can be accurately revealed. Better than all this - it establishes a creative platform upon which you can expand and create your own distinctive feats!"

"Atlas has taken a field which many have often shied away from and given it a new lease on life. He has given this technique a massive kick up the backside and offered you, the performer, a very real variety of modern genres from which you will be able to reveal specific thoughts. His tips and suggestions for how to make this convincing are wonderfully direct and you will feel very confident, upon completing this book (although, I want to say that it's more like a workbook due to the wonderful layout he's decided on) that you will be able to perform some pretty strong and more often than not, impromptu, Mentalism."
- Colin McLeod

Anyone interested in having a look at the book can do so HERE.

Best,

Atlas
