Conjuring in The Hobbit

Anyone else seen The Hobbit yet?

If you did, did you notice Ian McKellen's sleight of hand? It was such a non-moment in the film that I kind of only half noticed it and I'd like to see it again with total awareness of what I'm about to see, but fireballs and CGI aside, Gandalf does at least one actual bit of magic.

In the scene after the dwarves wreck Bilbo's hole, there's a gathering where he produced a key, using a beautiful slow twirl flipstick production. I've been trying it with a few pens around the house (I've only ever done a flipstick as a sudden snap before, so I had to have a go) and it really does look elegant.

I'm now wondering if he does any other sleight of hand in the film. Might go see it again. In 3D this time, and without the 5 nerds on the row behind talking...

I haven't seen it yet but should be this weekend! I'll be on the lookout for the scene. Do you think I should see it in 3D first time round or just 2D?

Feel like I have to make some kind of joke about dwarves wrecking Bilbo's hole but my new years resolution is to try to be more mature!

Oh please, why do you think I phrased it that way?

As for 2D or 3D, I only saw 2D so can't say.

Nothing will ever eclipse the classic - "Nobody tosses a dwarf" line from the Fellowship! Seconded only by, "your going to have to toss me" from the Two Towers!

If there is a line in the Hobbit that beats either of those, I will never watch another film ever again!!

Probably it's a late answer, but go for the 2d. Watch it in 3d hfr only after that as it's an interesting technology and it has some absolutely stunning scenery, but it will give you the impression of watching actors playing on a set. Instead of an actual movie, in 3d hfr it looked like a making of...
