What am I missing??

Postby kevmundo » Feb 27th, '13, 22:44

I went for an interview this evening for a residency at a local restaurant. It's for one night per month up until September. They're paying £200 for a couple of hours work. I'm very happy to say I got the gig, but what surprised me was that the manager seemed so relieved to see me when I turned up. She stated that she had E-mailed and phoned so many magicians and no-one had got back to her. I called her a week ago and since then, she received zero calls or E-mails from anyone she contacted. I showed a few tricks but to be honest, I think I was hired before I walked in the door. It seems odd to me that in today's climate of austerity, people wouldn't be falling over themselves to get stuff like this. I think the work is out there, it just seems some people don't want it?????

I think you need to re-word the title to, "what are we missing" ...... 'cos I'm with you ..... why wouldn't anyone (apart from yourself) not even bother .... especially when the money is quite reasonable ??
The mind boggles ...........

QUESTION:
If we can sue McDonalds for making us fat and cigarette companies for giving us cancer; why can't we sue Smirnoff for all the ugly gits we've sh*gged ??

That's incredible! We have dozens and dozens of posts on here about the difficulty of getting bookings, the miserly pay offered (if any) and the generally poor impression many people have of 'magicians'. Then a golden opportunity comes along like this and the booker gets just one response? Full marks to you for going in and getting the gig, I'm quite sure that if you were an awful magician you wouldn't have been hired so, despite the poor response, you got the job on your merits - well done!

I think there's an issue with people who aren't especially internet savvy keeping their details up to date. If they change phone number or go from one free email address to another and don't change their website then they won't notice someone's trying to get into contact with them.

I'd agree! If the only choice was a poor choice they'd have gone for something else. Bingo night, or belly dancers.

Chees guys!! :D I think you must be right over the contact details. I'm still getting my head around carrying another phone with me. All my stuff is coming through Google Adwords so at the moment I can't recommend it enough. However, you have to keep on top of it and if you're not Internet savvy it must be a nightmare. Simply uploading a website and just leaving it there is tantamount to standing on the moon and shouting "I'm a magician!" You do have to keep on top things. For me i think it was just a case of right place right time! ;)
