Yup, I'm still game. Can't stay too long tonight, I'm afraid, but I'll be delighted to come along for a bit.

Ooh, and I'm carrying flashpaper. Bonus.

I'm in the Lamb. Busier than I expected for a Tuesday night! If there are any newcomers joining us this week, I'm the guy in the green checked shirt and the red trousers with the high-vis jacket and the lunchbox full of playing cards! That should narrow it down!

A fine night was had in the Lamb and Flag with myself, Dan, and Gary - a newcomer! More shared tricks, some flash paper and a seriously confused/impressed barman.

Next month?

17th November, Lamb and Flag.

See you there!

Dan - what was the name of the stacked deck you showed? And the Once Upon a Time trick? When I google once upon a time i can only find the age old trick with the 4 Jacks.

That's correct. The stack was a DAO stack, as described in Doug Dyment's Tricyclic, which is well worth the $30.

Andy and I were joined this month by Gary, a lurker on this forum who's promised to make an account and say hi (so look out for him soon). Over a series of drinks in a slightly-too-busy pub we talked about a variety of sleights, the psychology of magic, flashpaper (yeah, I'm still mucking about with it a lot), making money as a magician (Gary's got a success story in the making, there), and some interesting mathematical principles (hence the trick that Andy mentioned in the previous message). We also talked about hypothetical ways in which we can spread the existence of our little club a bit wider.

Hi all! Here's a reminder that we arranged to meet tonight (gosh: that came around fast):

Monday 17th November 2014, 7:15pm onwards
Lamb & Flag, St. Giles, Oxford [map]

This month I've been reading Roberto Giobbi's The Art Of Switching Decks, which is the largest single-purpose book that I've ever seen: who knew you could write 160 pages on the subject of deck-switching, but I've still found time to do a little magic practice too, and in fact I've got an original(?) new effect that I'd love to hear your thoughts on. See you there!

I can hang around for a bit. If nobody else comments in this thread then I'll probably aim to arrive a little late (around 7:30) myself, so I can finish off some work and eat some food. Hopefully see you at 8:15ish: leave a comment if you change your mind!

Update: On my way to the Lamb & Flag now; just grabbing a bite to eat on the way there and I'll be there about 7:30.

Andy, Gary and I got together last night and played with flash cotton, B**** W*** gimmicked decks, and mysterious tubs full of water. We attracted a few stares from the couple playing rummy on the table next to us, who presumably at first thought that we, like them, were just there for a game of cards! We compared DL technique and practiced a handful of elastic band tricks. Later, we attempted to come up with a routine of illusions based on a theme of traditional large stage tricks (sawing a woman in half, the sword cabinet with costume change, catching a bullet, etc.) but performed in ultra-small scale using everyday office equipment (scissors, hole punch, stapler, pencils, etc.). Fun was had by all, and in a spectacular finish, we made a significant amount of beer "disappear".

For our last meeting of the year we've opted to pull the date forward by a week to avoid Christmas. And so, our next meeting will be -

Tuesday 16th December 2014, 7:15pm onwards
Lamb & Flag, St. Giles, Oxford [map]

See you there! Would be great to see some of the new Oxford-based folks that have started cropping up on the forum, too!
