I must agree about this book. It is a great book to have. The Stagecraft is really old and needs updatign but the book teaches a bit of everything. Even how to build your own Ventril. Doll.

I only add this to an old thread, because it's not that long ago that i learned this.

There is a very good reason why Kevin James uses the strange and wonderfull extremes of human nature.

Kevin james is a direct decendent of the king of bunco, the fillibuster of flim-flam , the prince of humbug himself.... P.T.Barnum.
and what he is trying to create is an updated, modern version of Barnum's " freak" show.

And your supposed to feel slightly disturbed by what you see.

Dunninger's Ency. of Magic

Postby Allen Tipton » Dec 30th, '08, 11:57

:D Just for the record and would be searchers for the Ency. of Magic.
It was first published in 1967 & reprinted by The Hamlyn Group Ltd. in 1970.It was based on Dunninger's 3 volumes of 'Popular Magic'
Some of the material appeared in the Magic For The Millions booklets, ( each costing 50 cents)published by the British News Agency, Toronto with no author credited.
I have issue 2 of this ; my other issue being borrowed some years ago and never returned.

There is an equally fascinating book by Dunninger, copyright 1974, entitled, 'Dunninger's Monument to Magic.'
This was published by Lyle Stuart Inc. Secaucus, New Jersey.
Lyle was the first publisher of the D Encyl.
It contains many pics of Dunninger & a short biog., and according to Walter Gibson's introd.' newer material which has never before appeared in book form'. There are Dunninger articles & his 'exposes' of magic from 'Everyday Science & mechanics ' magazines
A lot, if not all of the Popular Magic series are in the book.
The last 100 pages contains a lot of Houdini material & pics plus repros of letters from famous magicians,( i.e. in their handwriting and typewritten) as Kellar, Thurston,J.N. Maskelyne, Goldin, & George La Follette, plus many pics of famous magicians of the day.

Lots of Magic memorablilai & effects to browse through and dream about.
