The Effect: .... coped from The Merchant of Magic web site:

A prediction is made and you don't go near it from the start of the magic trick, right through to the amazing revelation.

You ask someone to think of a playing card. No deck of playing cards in involved. They just think of any card in their mind. Now have them change their mind so it is even more inexplicable for you to possibly know or be able to control their thoughts.

Your spectators make a few decisions and now have just a single playing card in their head, so they name the thought of playing card.

Take out your wallet to reveal a single playing card and that your prediction is correct!

No decks of playing cards are needed.
Just use your everyday Wallet
Suitable for beginners and all skill levels
You already carry your wallet, so pocket space is not a problem.
It's with you always, so you can perform Spoken anywhere

Cost:

Available from http://www.magicshop.co.uk/p142688/Spok ... _info.html

for £21.50 + £2.99 p&p = £24.49 .... plus, when I got this, they were giving a free DVD of Rus Andrew's "Bold" worth £20  .

Difficulty:

(1=easy to do, 2=No sleights, but not so easy, 3=Some sleights used,
4=Advanced sleights used, 5=Suitable for experienced magicians only)

No deck of cards is actually used, the only handling of any cards is when you reveal their thought of card by pulling it out of your wallet.
The only real skill needed, is the presentation of the effect and spectator handling.

Review:

Let's get this straight, if you're expecting the spec to randomly select one card, then you pull that selection out of your wallet, then it's not going to happen ...... BUT, that's what happens in the mind of the spec - and that's what matters !!
If you've read the blurb, then like me, you're prob trying to work out the method .... my train of thought was, you've either got an army of 52 cards in your wallet, or you're guiding the spec to pick a certain card ..... let's just say, it's a bit of both and leave it at that.
Important point - you need a wallet or somewhere suitable to reveal the card from. You cannot simply place a single card in an envelope and then pull it out to reveal their selection, nor can you place a single card face down on the table and turn it over to reveal their selection.

I wouldn't advise on repeating this to the same people, as the method may be tipped, but you could possibly repeat if needed and the spec could choose a different card from the first time and you'd still reveal their card from your wallet. Personally, I wouldn't even repeat it once to the same people, just in case.

Overall:

I do like this, the only problem I have with this is I don't use a suitable wallet for this. I just tried it on my missus (she makes a good guinea pig for all my latest acquisitions) and it floored her when I pulled her selection out of my back pocket. I don't think using pockets is as strong as placing your wallet out in open view before you start, but it def works and still packs a punch, as I could tell from my missus' face  .

I give this 8/10. It loses points for the restriction placed with the wallet (you need one with a bit of spare room and a few separate compartments) and this is really only a one trick pony, that I wouldn't really recommend repeating.

Overall though, I do like it and I'm sure I can fit it in to my collection somewhere ..... go buy it 8) .

Do you have this, or are you just going off my review ??

I'll have to admit that I was sceptical initially - it just seemed too brash and really not my cup of tea.

There are 2 main "secrets" to this - one with the cards and one with the patter. I'll have to admit, I wasn't really impressed with either of them, but i've overcome the latter, as I've changed things around a little .... whereas before, I was a bit worried that the spec might suspect something, with my take on things, the chances of bering rumbled (in my opinion) are reduced somewhat.

I did this to a friend who works behind a bar, on Sat night/Sunday morning and his jaw dropped to the floor when I revealed his selection ..... do not underestimate the power of this trick. Admittedly I've only shown this trick twice, so I need to test it more to get more reactions, but on both ocassions, their jaw literally just dropped to the floor.

Sounds very similar to kolossal killer. I don't know if you have/know the method for KK but if you do, is this any better?

Sorry I don't have KK, so I can't compare the 2 :(

I saw this and thought, "that's impossible." And I don't mean impossible in the sense that a cigarette through coin is impossible. I mean, a spec saying a card and you opening a wallet with that card in it is impossible. There is no method on earth that will allow you to perform this that cleanly. Therefore, there's something that the promo isn't telling us. This is the sort of marketing that upsets people when they finally get their hands on the 'secret' only to discover that the effect was not as described on the tin.

You could, for half the price, buy Corinda, invest in and practice with an index and get a lifetime of material as well. I also know Marc Spellman does a similar effect on The Chapters of Marc Spellman. But (and I'm sure this won't tip the method) there's some wordplay, equivoque, magicians choice and some interesting envelopes. It will achieve the same result. Whenever I see these sort of effects I can't help thinking that essentially they are a variant of CAAN or ACAAN effects and have no real claim to be better or worse.

For a CAAN effect I use X-act which works for me. You could learn Al Korans five star prediction for a fraction of the price. I recently bought The Grail and instantly regretted it as I basically paid to replicate an effect I already own and have multiple methods for (stupid blxxdy magic obsession I guess). Anyway, I can hazard a guess at the method but I think there are other effects out there that can replicate this in the minds of the audience. I also think that the advertising around it is a little bit naughty. To the uninitiated, (some poor kid who's saved up his pocket money) they will no doubt receive this and feel a tad deflated. Not because the effect isn't awesome, and I'm sure it is, but because what it claims to be simply isn't true. You cannot place an envelope on a table and ask a random spec to name any card, open the envelope, and produce that card. If you could, you would have reached a level of magical ability that transcends time and space!

I do have it and was hugely disappointed. It is a convoluted method that is neither as clean or as powerful as Kolossal Killer or On The Mark....it does not even tip its hat to either...

Cheers

I bought Mark Oberons Bang On back when I Was a gullible beginner buying things that sounded good in the blurb. It is a similar effect with a disappointing method that I have only ever used once. Now, Wayne Dobsons ID has become a real favourite of mine and combines a number of the solutions mentioned to give a real wow factor ending. Must try to dig out Bang On and put it up for sale!
