I am truly dissapointed with the bat because of the description i was given as to the possabillitys of the tricks you can do with it,it just goes to show that even though i have been doing magic for about 5 years now i can still be fooled myself.

As for the raven,a truly superb peice of equipment and noone has ever said"i know how you did that"well worth the money.

raven/bat available from www.emagictricks.co.uk

The bat is terrible. The raven is one of my favorite gimmicks. The effects seem impossible to the audience. I wouldnt advise ANYONE to buy the bat. Ive never owned it but i know people who have and they said there are really no effects u can do with it.

Can the Raven be bought at everyday Magic stores or must it be purchased online?

you can purchase the raven in most magic stores i would think. However, you can purpose it from any online magic store such as magicsmith.com or thetrickery.com

I guess I go against the grain here. I don't use a Raven (though I know its workings) but I do use a Bat, and I do think the Bat is more versatile and better for a table-hopping type situation than the Raven. Of course, the Raven does a great vanish or change (something which the Bat cannot do nearly as well), but requires a re-set between tricks. If you're going from one table/spectator to another, that isn't very feasible. Also, that's all the Raven does. The Bat requires no reset and can allow you to perform a number of effects, if you really explore its possibilities. Though I don't bother attempting a vanish with it (again I agree, best left to the Raven) I do like the PK rings effect - the specs assume you must have a magnet concealed in your hands, and are wowed when you roll up your sleeves and show them you haven't. With repositioning (or even a second Bat) you can do some great table PK effects. Some of the newer UK 1p and 2p pieces are "compatible" with the Bat (if you know what I mean) and you can amaze people by making such a coin move on a table - if you've borrowed the coin from a spec, (and make the coin move in a subtle way) the effect is even better. Some might assume you could be using some very fine IT, but you can then show you're not!

Although the Bat can be used for vanishing objects, really the two are suited to different effects.

The Raven is designed for vanishing items (particularly coins or shells) and leaving you clean.

The Bat is designed to create a magnetic field for PK type effects (e.g. The brass rings effect)

ok just thought id say that both the bat and raven are excellent at what they do but it depends on what type of effect you want to convey (vanishes or PK)
