Just found a nice little effect I like but I need to be able to hold back anything up to 5 cards in the card box. Anyone aware of any gimmick that would enable me to do this as I am really not comfortable / confident in doing this with feel alone?
Simply place the cards you wish to hold back in the box and bend the flap on them completely. Slide the remainder of the deck into the box directly over the flap and all. It will work like a charm!
Blessings on thee, little man

Outward sunshine; Inward joy,
Blessings on thee, Barefoot Boy!
Yeah I was thinking something along those lines, again the problem comes with trying to hold back either 1, 2 or 3 cards depending on the outcome. Mebbe a s**m card with the s**m at opposite ends on 2 of the cards so depending on where I hold the PK... Shall have a play Thanks for the suggestion.
I know the Ellusionist decks of playing cards are made from a thicker stock. their packs of cards are actually much thicker than your average bikes (I believe around 3mm thicker). So i suppose it makes sense that their card boxes are too.
Why not try and purchase one of their Bicycle Master Edition Decks (the box isn't too different than standard bikes), and keep the card box. Perhaps the extra thickness of the box will be enough for you to do some form of th-mb count inside, retain a form of grip on that selection of cards (the number of your choosing) - allowing the other 50+ to slide out as normal?
Unfortunately I haven't purchased anything other than standard bikes in a long long time, so I can't test this out for you.
Thanks for the suggestion D'Jay, I can do the thumb count with the current bicycle deck, its just slow & fumbly. I'll just give up on the whole effect that uses it I reckon!
if you were to put 49 cards in the box and 2 on top and one underneath (both with the backs showing), you could hold the top and bottom for the 49 to fall out, put pressue on one side with the index finger for the other to fall out which would be 50 or 51 cards, or hold the sides to release them all.
you could even cut a hole in the rear middle part of the cellophane and thumb out a certain number of cards under the cover of the flap, and then take them at the same time as the deck.
Oooh that is it!! I have a card box with a false flap lying around that goes into the box, I can simply pull this back & hold off / thumb count. Excellent. Thanks
It is the Grail I am trying to get "The Move" to, from what I can gather X-ACT runs the same as the Grail but the end card can't be shown, but "The Move" is taken care of with a gimmick. I never like the idea of gimmick cards being in play & much prefer to be able to waggle them around, hand out if required. So not for me, I think the idea Relish gave me a couple of posts backs will be the route I go down unless I do discover a gimmick ed box that does this for me.
No worries - I think that Matthew Johnson also has a version of ACAAN (well, the DVD teaches several 'multiple out / multiple deck' versions) which utilises a count of a top stock of cards (I think they are short cards or cards which have been trimmed at each corner and are stacked every other, essentially giving 6 cards worth of counting ability - just another idea to throw into the mix
Not sure exactly how it could work, but maybe a stripper deck? Don't know if you could strip the cards out as you remove them from the box. If they're placed throughout the deck, counting would be fairly easy.
You can also put one of the 5 cards on the bottom of your deck. When you take the cards out, it is very easy to hold (put back with your middle finger) the last card in the card case.
