Hi,
My name is Jack and I've been a keen hobbyist now for nearly 2 years. Even though I've been interested in magic my whole life, I really got into it when I agreed / promised to put on a magic show for my 3 year old son.
That was a tough gig and I cringe already at some of the tricks I performed that day (needle through balloon with 3 year olds does NOT work), but I still received a round of applause at the end which spurred me on.
Since then I've bought a bunch of DVDs read quite a few books and performed 4 more childrens magic shows as well as some close up magic for friends and family. I've even had a 'day with Paul Daniels' earlier this year which was not only a real eye opener but also great fun.
At the moment I run my own business in IT and do magic for fun, but I'm seriously considering becoming a part-time working magician in the Summer, primarily doing kids shows as this is where I've got the most practical experience so far (and I don't really have the confidence in my technical abilities yet to do paid adult magic).
I'm also considering joining the Surrey Magic Society and or potentially looking into attempting to join the magic circle in the next couple of years, though I don't know what the costs / benefits of this process would be - any thoughts or advice much appreciated.
Look forward to being an active contributor to the forum.
All the best,
Jack - aka. Magico Jackimo
