Rvoice100's IET Bands

Postby spooneythegoon » Feb 17th, '14, 21:41

This is a review of rvoice100's IET bands, available from him for £5 for 5. I recieved these as a free review copy, but I will do my best to provide a balanced review.
The Effect
As this is a utility item, a multitude of effects will be possible (please note that when you purchase these, no instructions of any sort will be provided-this product is intended for those who already have experience with IET bands).
Cost
£5 for a set of 5 bands. This is a little steep if you are going to be using these a lot (when performing the haunted deck for example I tend to replace the loop after about 6 performances), but from the producers point of view selling them for much less wouldn't be worth the hassle of tying, packing, posting etc. These bands are cheaper than the equivalent Mesika product, which work out at around £9 for 5.
Difficulty
These are a utility item, so the difficulty will depend on what you do with them. As I have mentioned previously, however, it is worth noting that no instructional material will be provided.
Review
The bands arrived wrapped around a jumbo playing card with notches made by hole punching the ends to keep them securely in place. While not extravagant, this system does the trick as far as transport and storage goes. These bands are made from legacy thread, which appears to be of very high quality. The thread is very thin, but I am finding it to be somewhat more visible than other threads I have encountered (not a problem for animation effects like haunted deck where very little thread is exposed, but may be troublesome if attempting to perform levitation routines in bright conditions), but is still thin enough for most purposes. The thread is strong, and its elastic properties are exellent, allowing for dramatic haunted deck effects where the card is propelled from the deck. Durability in terms of repeat performances is acceptable, averaging around 14 repetitions of the haunted deck (displacing roughly a third of the deck each time) before breakage occured (IET bands are intended to be disposable and will wear out with repeated strain). The bands appear to have been tied rather well, with knots of consistent size and minimal visibility. When the bands snapped, examination showed that the breakage occured in the thread itself, and not in the knot (showing that the knots are secure). Overall These bands are of excellent quality. While they are rather costly when one considers the disposable nature of these bands, they are considerable cheaper than certain similar products on the market, and obviously much more covenient than making your own. Recommended. 8/10
