A request for new TM-ers

Postby artychris » May 5th, '14, 13:37

I've been a Talk Magic member for a few years now, and have seen many people come and go... It's great to have new members join and the energy you all bring is invaluable... You'll find that the experienced magicians that post here can offer you so much help and advice :)

Can I ask you to bear in mind one thing though please... as you grow in you magic development, and go from picking up your first deck of cards to becoming an experienced professional magician, please keep posting here! As you become a more experienced magician, your experience will in turn become invaluable to the next generation of new comers!

Thank you :)

As possibly the newest TM member (joined 10 minutes or so ago), I will certainly post as frequently as possible, after years of wanting to get into magic I have taken the plunge and today bought "The Royal Road to Card Magic" and 2 decks of Bicycle Rider Backs, as a playing card collector I think the regular purchase of new decks will help keep me motivated through the no-doubt endless hard work I have ahead of me,

If you've bought the DVD set (as oppose to the book), I hope you've bought the 5 disc one and not the 4 disc one. They are completely different and the 5 disc one is well worth the extra money :)

No worries - don't make the same mistake that I did. I initially bought the 4 DVD set, then later on bought the 5 DVD one, after I realised my mistake :| .
Even though they are both called "Royal Road to Card Magic" - they're completely different .... don't waste your money on the 4 DVD set :)

I've lived on this forum you've had the good and the bad and I in return have had great advice and general information, some of you may remember the basement, the pond, yes the doves head had a pond, and I hope in some way I've been able to give some of you useful advice among my occasional ramblings.
the best thing about this forum is that anyone can express there opinions so long as they respect the other members views even if they are diametrically apposed to there's, this is largely due to the sterling work of the mods and admin who quietly and gently guide us and rarely have to banish a member to oblivion.
new members don't feel overwhelmed or outclassed we are equally as happy to hear that you've just nailed your first DL or discovered what a tt is as we are to hear that a member has a modicum of success commercially Mark
remember the first time you make a persons face light up will stay with you for a lifetime and in the dark times when you can't perform..... illness, other commitments, MIKE it will sustain you and keep the magic spark alive, so join in be apart of something bigger than all of us...... the joy and wonderment magic brings to peoples lives.

Well said matey, my feelings about this place exactly, it's quite magic :D

Let's all keep it that way. I have no doubt we will really. I'd even bet on it, dangerous as gambling with anyone here may be!

thanks again moonbeam, advice well and truly taken, I was considering starting a thread charting my progress right from the very beginning is this something that has been overdone? I just think it will be good for motivation

I don't think it's been done before (someone feel free to correct me) - I think it might be quite interesting to follow :)

Hey Carl,

Funnily enough I had a similar idea of starting a success story thread for new folk to post up any random night they went out and put themselves in the spot so to speak... Kind if similar maybe. I wanted to tell of a few such nights I've had recently that may encourage others, so wondered if we could/should put them together in a 'still slightly nervous? Read this' kind of thread. Not sure if it's the same thing...

Both are excellent ideas, by all means go ahead and tell all - it will encourage others to chip in with their experiences.
