ID Source?

Postby The Last Deck on the Left » Jun 24th, '05, 11:47

Hi all,

I need (attack of the CUPS again!) to replace my Waddingtons ID with a Bicycle one - as I don't use any other kind of cards now, and just wondered what the best version around is?

I've read that some decks from some shops don't use enough 'magic' to make the cards 'magic'.

Any suggestions?

Thanks!

I've been using the Penguin one off and on for about a month, and the only card that isn't still 'magicked' is the AS/QH, so I just keep those in my pocket and if someone names them...hee hee.

I cant reveal here where I think the problem lies, suffice it to say that I think it is too easy to accidently reveal the wrong card.

Am I doing something wrong when this trick is meant to be failsafe? Was I sold a poor quality deck?

I am also having problems with this trick. The card is always stuck and has to be pried to reveal it is facing the other way.

Did you find an answer?

This is one of my favourites. As others have said it is an easy trick to work even for a beginer. If the cards are sticking I would say that is on the good side. I move very slowly through the pack to effect the reveal so this doesn't matter.

The way I presented this in my office was to line four people up. One held the cards (in the box) one had to choose red or black, one had to choose the suit and one the number. This worked really well because all forms of collusion were beyond suspicion and it proved I couldn't tamper with the pack.

Great trick, one I think will stay in my top tricks for ever

If the cards are stuck together flexing the deck slightly will free them. The key to revealing the card is all in the amount of pressure you use. When you go through the deck lightly nothing happens, then when yuo increase the pressure almost parrallel to the plane the cards are in they separate. If you are still having problems there may be too much of the magic dust on the cards, try rubbing the faces together lightly to remove a little of it.

If you have problems with revealing the wrong card accidentally your deck probably needs refreshing (there are other threads that cover this) or you might want to practice your counting!

I got this today and practised with it for about 2 hours, then did it on a friend and he was gobsmacked. This deck will be staying permanetly in my pocket. I got mine from MagicBox which is where I get most of my tricks. Always seem to be good quality and service and the next day delivery is very useful.

Please could yuo help ? I have just got this deck and the cards seem to separate too easily. Is it handling or does it need more fluid or some bedding in ?

Thanks in advance, DBo. :?

First thing to do when you receive these is to separate all the card. Then, just handle them for a while—riffling can help.

This frees everything up.

Now, a misconception with the ID is you have to really HOLD tight to the cards so you don't expose the gaff. This is wrong.

A gentle touch at all times is all that's needed. PRESSURE is different from FORCE. Just gentle pressure in the right places will help.

You'll need to practice 'releasing' the chosen card. It's something that comes with practice.

i recently bought an ID off ebay.
not particuarly cheaper then other places but i was buying a couple of things so just added an ID.
the quality was terrible compared to other ID's ive had in the past and i really had to struggle with it.
If your having trouble with the cards then maybe its just of a poorer quality

I changed a few of your words above as they tended to indicate the working which I'm sure isn't what you meant to do  !

I think we heard similar stories not too long ago about this sort of thing. Some of the pitfalls of buying unseen off e-bay are poor quality, home made rather than professional, and possibly using cheapo cards in the first place. It's a timely warning that the buyer should beware, personally I'd much prefer to spend a pound or two more and buy from a known source where any subsequent problems will be dealt with - life's too short to be spending time trying to track down dodgy sellers and get refunds etc!

As a sidenote on the eBay thing, I had a guy (or could have been a gal!) contact me at NUMS offering cheap decks, including the ID.

They claimed to have a successful eBay magic shop, and made their own gaff decks in-house.

However, on closer inspection, their magic shop was full of cloned products, and what I assume could be hand-made crud quality decks.

I have had several decks and have found that the stuff that makes them work if you see what I mean, is very variable and some decks that I have had suffered from what I will call slipage. But get a good deck, (I made one up from 2) and with the right patter it is a killer. Especially if you can switch it out for another deck to be inspected

I used to love my ID untill i had it in my pocket in the rain. Destroyed it all. i compare that experience to loosing a favourite child. You have reminded me, i need to get my oh-so-clean mits on a new one.

I know how the ID works as a friend of mine had one. Although, I'm not in contact with him anymore and was just wondering how long you think an ID would last on average?

I can see that everyone loves this deck and I have seen it in action and love it. I know if I buy one I would probably get a rubbish one as I'm led to believe that quality differs. Not that I could perform it for a long time because of my stupidly broken finger

Any help is great!
