DF cards

Postby BrianO » Jun 26th, '14, 16:19

Hi

I have a particular effect in mind and I think to acheive it I need to use a DF cards (different face on each side).

My question is what do you get in a bicycle DF deck?

Ideally I am looking for two cards the same. A court card and a low number would be ideal. would this just a case of buying two decks?

Cheers
B

Contact http://www.cards4magic.co.uk, they not only sell DF decks but also individual cards - hope that helps.

If you put special cards into our search function you'll find lot of previous threads which offer suggestions. A couple of TM contributors manufacture special cards and there's a book/DVD/ called something like Lickety Splt which shows how to make your own doubles backers or facers. Again a bit of searching or even Googling will throw up plenty of possibilities.

I suppose it depends on what you're doing and where, but generally - is there anything wrong with just sticking two cards together?

It's not a skill I've ever needed to learn, but card-splitting might be a way forward if you need specific cards.

I remember a while ago needing a full deck of doubleface cards where each card made an ID pair. Very surprised such a thing did not exist. And then someone did bring a deck out, by which point I'd forgotten why I needed one.

So it goes.

Thanks guys,

I had a look at licky split and might get it if I cant find what I'm looking for. I have glued some cards together for the time being however it is a small packet trick (6 cards) that I'm looking to develop so I would perfer a pre made card.

I was just curious to find out what was commercially available and in the case of the bicycle deck what the pairs are.

If I find something suitable I'll be sure to let ye know.

Thanks again. :D

Some years ago, I was looking for a pack that had approximately half a deck of cards with the same card on each side. I bought a couple of different sets of double facers over the years, but the first one had a random selection. My understanding was that each deck was identical and had the same combinations. It is possible that the ones now available are different cards, but I think they still have a set of "random" pairings, but the same in each pack.

This might help you (ignore the video and scroll down): http://www.magictricks.com/double-faced-cards.html

There are a few cards that fit your requirements in that set; you'll just need to buy two.

I am not an anti exposure fanatic but aren't we giving away secrets here? After all this site does come up on search engines.

Considering the stats of visitors to TM in recent times, I very much doubt we're giving much away to lay people! Also, we aren't actually indicating how such DFs are being used but, just in case, lets be aware of the possibility. I'll try and invoke the word censor to automatically abbreviate the wording which might add some confusion.

I dont mean to cause offense here (and hopefully I wont!!)

I have found the information on this site invaluable...and you for that...

I am not sure how to approach asking questions here. I joined a year and a half ago and I am not a particulary active member of the forum because I mainly use the search function more than anything else. Most topics that I have searched for have given me at least a starting point and from there I have done my own research.

I had presumed that not mentioning anything about the effect and just looking for some information on the cards would be ok. I have read threads on here with tips on making them without any mention of exposure.

I'm not trying to make a big deal out of this but I'm not really sure where this exposure/information line lies.

I am normally quite sensitive about exposure and thought there was nothing wrong in what you asked. This is a magic site and your request was reasonable for the open bit of the forum. As you say, you didn't mention the nature of the trick, let alone how it worked or what it looked like.
